Vladimir Putin Sends Nuclear-Capable Missiles To Belarus As Ukrainian Attacks Intensify

Russia said on Saturday it plans to send nuclear missiles to Belarus within months, signaling audacity as it made gains in Ukraine’s eastern regions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made the pledge during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who has publicly supported Russia in its invasion of Ukraine. “We will transfer Iskander-M tactical missile systems capable of using ballistic or cruise missiles in their conventional and nuclear versions to Belarus,” he said, according to the Russian state news agency TASS. “It’s a deal.”

Putin also promised to help upgrade some of Belarus’ aircraft to support nuclear missiles.

The Russian strong-arm’s potentially deadly declaration came as he remained a pariah among world leaders during the weekend’s G7 summit in Germany. There, leaders from the US, UK and other nations debated further penalties for Russia over Putin’s war.

“The main message of the G7 will be unity and coordination of action… That is the main message that even in difficult times… we stand by our alliance,” said an EU official The guard.

The announcement also came days after Russian troops drove Ukrainian troops out of the city of Lysychansk in what the Associated Press said was part of their effort to claim territories along Ukraine’s eastern regions. Ukraine said it hopes to use newly acquired weapons systems from the US to counter the aggression

“Summer will be hot for the Russian occupiers,” said Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov tweeted Thursday. “And for some of them, the last.”
