Five villains, three heroes and the return of Doctor Strange are more than enough characters to take on the climactic third action battle of the series. Spider-Man: There’s no way home, but unsurprisingly there were initial plans to include at least one more fan-favorite song into the mix.

Follow the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, fans were hoping that Tom Hardy’s symbiotic superhero would play a major role in Tom Holland’s third solo outing, but to be fair a lot of people were disappointed by the way everything worked out in the end.

However, in an in-depth interview about There is no way homeproduced with Diversity, writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers admit that Venom was originally set for a much more important role in the story than he received. In fact, they even confirmed that letting the alien parasite act as Peter Parker’s friend or foe was “definitely discussed” in the early stages of the writing process.

Based on franchise reality, where Venom the movies that exist have recently been renamed to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, we’ll soon recognize that debacle. The only real question is which version of web-slinger Hardy will have to face himself.
