Vanguard – Tips for Zombies Mode

Latest Zombies Mode Call of Duty installment, Call of Duty: Vanguard, was met with a lot of secured opposition from the fan base and a rather lackluster debut abroad.

And, to be fair, this mode is a huge difference from any previous Zombies mode, with lots of new things to get used to. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best tips out there for getting the most out of the Der Anfang experience in Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Play Loose & Fast

Call of Duty Vanguard Zombies - What the portal looks like before you step in

First and foremost, lots of new players Vanguard Zombies One immediate mistake is to rest too long between each goal. That’s right, after each objective, the repositioned Red Star center area will open more, more Devil’s Fountains (AKA Perks) become available and looted items will appear again. such as pairs and crystal clusters. This tip doesn’t suggest players skip all of this, instead, just do it quickly.

Not exaggerating, Der Anfang is happiest when the players do not stop moving as fast as possible so that things do not become stale. And, since the majority of weapon/character EXP and in-game money comes from completing objectives rather than killing (especially in the central area), this is also the most profitable tactic to hone. .

Focus on completing the goal rather than the number of killsCall of Duty Vanguard Zombies - Two of the playable characters take down some zombies

To go a little deeper into the experiential experience Vanguard Zombies, it’s not like any other CoD Experience Zombies. Usually, players decide how much they want to focus on killing bullets, rounds, or easter egg missions by how quickly they kill waves of zombies. In Vanguard, EXP is almost entirely determined by goal completion. That’s not to say killing Zombies doesn’t give EXP, just not nearly as much as the target, especially at higher rounds.

The best method players have found so far is to get max 20-40 kills per target, complete it and move on to the next one, and it’s very easy to get used to each objective , as only three of them are currently in total.

Call Of Duty Vanguard Zombies - Open random boxes and get guns

Gun Rarity System in Cold War added a whole other level of complexity to Zombies. Not only do players have to worry about their Pack-A-Punch level, but they also have to worry about using High-Grade Salvage to upgrade the rarity of their guns accordingly in Round 44+. Well, rarity is (sort of) making a comeback Vanguard. Basically, the color of the border around the gun determines the level of PAP, with:

  • White = No Pack-A-Punch
  • Blue = First level of Pack-A-Punch
  • Purple = Level Two Pack-A-Punch
  • Orange = Pack-A-Punch max level

And, since wall purchases are gone and all four of these rarity show up in the Random Box, it’s more useful than ever. So don’t hesitate to use it early, as it can greatly improve the experience depending on the type of gun being dropped.

Metabolic damage is absolutely required

Call Of Duty Vanguard Zombies - In-game catabolic damage demon fountain

The Demon Fountains in Vanguard Zombies, while not as engaging as Perk Machines, it’s a bit great on the eye. The cracks, the bright colors of the beer and the design of the fountain are all memorable. There are a total of five of them on Der Anfang, and they are:

  • Fiendish Fortitude AKA Juggernog
  • Toxic vitality AKA Quick Revive (or at least Quick Revive’s improved healing rate)
  • Aethereal Haste AKA Stamin-Up
  • Crazy devil AKA Speed Cola
  • Damage due to catabolism AKA Deadshot Daquiri

All of them are useful in their own way, but the last one, Diabolical Damage, is especially useful in Vanguard. In this version of Zombies, headshots/crit hits are more important than ever, as limb damage is significantly reduced compared to other games. So while Diabolical Damage might not seem like the most important perk in Shotgun crafting, it helps more than one might think as long as the player is always aiming for the head (this is obviously super easy using a controller and the in-game aiming assist).

Don’t be afraid to use the field upgrade

Call Of Duty Vanguard Zombies - A group of players all use the Ring Of Fire Field upgrade

The field upgrade will feel very familiar to anyone who has played Cold War Zombies, except significantly worse. Currently in Vanguard Yes:

  • Ring of Fire
  • Aether Shroud
  • Energy Mine
  • Frost Blast

Now, to be fair, the Dark Aether-connected totems characters use to summon these powers are new, but mechanically they work exactly the same as in Cold War, if not a little less reliable. That said, the fee rates appear to be a lot higher in Vanguard than in Cold Warand “Full Power” power appears from chests in Cold War of The burst mode is a relatively common way to increase power in Vanguard. So don’t sit on fully charged Field Upgrades, use them as soon as it seems necessary.

Try & Merge Demon Covenants

Call Of Duty Vanguard Zombies - What does the Devil's Heart Coven look like

The Covenant and Sacrificial Heart system is brand new to Zombies IP and appears to be an attempt to add some sort of “human-like” element to it. CoD Zombie. And, for the most part, it’s a pretty welcome addition, even if the Covenants Compendium is relatively basic.

So don’t fall asleep spending those Sacrifice Hearts, especially in the later rounds. The Altar always glows with the color of the highest rarity Covenant available, from Normal to Legendary, so you can easily see when the Legendary Covenant is up for grabs. And, most importantly, try and Covenant synergies are obtained with the player’s primary weapon, as there are some crazy synergies out there. So far, the best way seems to be to use Ammo Gremlin with the Revolver Pistol to create a close range decay that the player never has to reload.

Find out the best spots in each map

Call Of Duty Vanguard Zombies - First person aim to take down some zombies

Honestly, the amount of content in Vanguard Zombies are ridiculous in their current state. There are five locations where the player will be teleported to many places and three goals to do, which are:

  • Transfer: Follow a Zombie Head floating in an orb until it reaches its target.
  • Quick: Survive against Zombies that spawn infinitely for a certain amount of time.
  • Harvest: Kill Zombies to feed Sin-Eaters until they are full.

So given the amount of iteration on both the map and the mechanics, players should really learn the best place to camp at each location. While standing still in Zombies sounds like something of a crime, remember Vanguard Zombies are very different and have Covenants that reward more damage while standing still.

Can use multiplayer to level up some guns first

Call Of Duty Vanguard Zombies - Target other players in multiplayer

The difference between a level 0 gun with no attachment and a level seventy gun with an awesome attachment is like night and day in Call of Duty: Vanguard. Sure, that’s always the case in these games, but the divide has never been this great. Even getting two of the original attachments on a gun can greatly increase damage, reduce gun recoil, and more. So if there’s a particular gun that looks like it would work well in Zombies, but it’s at the base level right now, put it in multiplayer for a couple of games.

Multiplayer for Vanguard Overall it’s great, so it will be fun to upgrade the gun (although it will take a while), and once those attachments are unlocked, the player can go right back to Zombies and make the grinding process for the rest of those levels a lot easier.

Where are Shotguns?

Call Of Duty Vanguard Zombies - Look at the Revolver pistol in the loading menu

Let’s talk a little bit about Shotguns in Vanguard Zombie. Like in Cold War Zombies with Hauer and Gallo, Shotguns are once again just a cut above the rest. In particular, the Revolver Shotgun is a one-shot champion in Zombies, even when the number of rounds is absurdly high. Part of this is down to the player being able to aim straight for the head consistently, but the other part is down to the Pistol base damage combined with some Covenants. In particular, things like Death Blow, Ammo Gremlin, and Dead Acc make it nearly impossible to avoid one-shot every Zombie in sight. That said, the November 18 nerf put a bit of a punch on the fun of this weapon, although it still performs incredibly well.

Call of Duty: Vanguard was released on November 5, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
