I like collecting old records. I’m hipster, I’m vintage, I’m different – say what you will, but I love vinyl. However, until recently, there was a certain lack of quality in my curated music setup. Honestly, it’s kind of lame to have all the coolest records you can find at a flea market or vintage store and not have a decent sound system to play them on.

For years, up until about a month ago, I had my $50 Victrola turntable on the bottom shelf. You know, a 1930’s style device with vinyl, CD, cassette, FM/AM and Bluetooth capability – just like our grandparents had (OK, no Bluetooth). I actually bought the same thing twice. The first broke almost immediately and the second…well, it didn’t look like it would make it either.

I had a lot of issues with my standard low tier turntable, but I put up with them because I figured it would cost hundreds of dollars to upgrade my setup. After a while, however, the audio quality fluctuated wildly from day to day and some key features seemed to wear out – two things that were becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Often the console turntables try to fit in as many features as possible, resulting in a less prioritized vinyl sound quality.

I wanted to build a quality system worthy of my impressive record collection, but it had to be within my budget. The spinning mechanism is designed to be silent and uses a large belt to spin the record, eliminating the grinding noise that lower-end turntables typically have.

U-turn also offers speakers in stylish patterns with seamless connectivity to their turntables. The turntable upgrade is nothing without a pair of new speakers. The Ethos Powered speakers come in a variety of sleek colors and can optionally come with grill covers, which I think give them a super cool retro look.
