Naomi Osaka has been admitted to the US Open after she withdrew from this year’s French Open and Wimbledon due to mental health reasons.

The world No. 2 is scheduled to compete at the Tokyo Olympics and then in Montreal next month before the start of the year’s final Grand Slam, which will be held with 100% fan capacity from August 30th.

Osaka will become part of the women’s court at the tournament in New York, which will also feature world No 1 Ashleigh Barty, who lifted her second major title at Wimbledon earlier this month.

A total of 15 major winners, including Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza, are expected to feature in the women’s field at Flushing Meadows while Serena Williams will aim to raise the 24 Grand Slam milestone. Defending French Open champion and world No. 11 Barbora Krejcikova were also present.

Sara Errani, a 2012 US Open semi-finalist, ranked 104th, was the last woman to enter straight, with Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens now the first player on the alternative list.

In the men’s section, former champions Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – who currently hold a record 20 Grand Slam singles titles – will continue their journey to win more silver medals in New York.

World No 1 Djokovic, who just grabbed his third big win of 2020 at Wimbledon, is aiming to become the first man since Australia’s Rod Laver in 1969 to complete a calendar year.

Another former champion, Andy Murray, currently ranked 104, was unable to draw the main draw but remained the first player on the alternate roster.
