UC Berkeley threat: Cal campus hideout run by someone who ‘may want to harm’ individuals, no active shooter

BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) – Berkeley police have asked Berkeley police to order a shelter due to a threat on the UC Berkeley campus, officials tweeted Thursday.

UC Berkeley officials sent an email explaining that it was due to an emerging active shooting threat involving a student who had been temporarily suspended for threatening behavior.

UC Berkeley Police clarification in a tweet“There is NO active shooter on campus. Police are actively looking for someone who may wish to harm specific individuals. Please continue to shelter in place at this time.”

A spokesperson for UC Berkeley said, “For now, all I can say is that there is a police investigation into a possible threat and everyone on campus has been taken care of. Shelter-in-place is required. In addition, those who are not on campus are being urged to stay away.”

Police asked people on campus to go inside and stay away from doors and windows.

They say emergency officials are responding to the scene. Police said the incident was limited to the campus area, particularly the southern part.

A notice warns students that all campus services such as the library, cafeteria and garage will be closed until further notice, and in-person classes will be cancelled. for the rest of the day.
