Two Female Fashion Leaders Lined up for ‘Fashion Icons’ Talks – WWD

POWER UP: Although many in the fashion industry have gone back to reschedule plans instead of executing them, 92Y is continuing with the spring season of “Fashion Icons with… Fern Mallis. ”

Building on the success of a sold-out season that included conversations with Brandon Maxwell and Prabal Gurung, Mallis has lined up two bold female fashion leaders.

Welcoming the upcoming appearances, Mallis notes that the fact that less than 14% of global fashion brands are led by women has motivated her to use her platform to showcase female leaders, “Those who have their name and influence are creating a one and inclusive future for all women. ”

The first in the line is Tory Burch, who will sit down with Mallis on March 30 at the Upper East Side Y. Next week, the supermodel, activist and founder of Every Mother Counts Christy Turlington Burns will be on stage on April 7.

Mallis said of Burch, “Tory has talked about joining me at Fashion Icons for years. With her growing role at the brand and all the good work she’s doing to empower women with Tory Burch Foundation, it seems like now is the perfect time for her to hit the headlines on the evening at 92Y. ”

The designer built from the ground up an estimated $1.5 billion company.

Mallis said she loves when her guests have a shared history. Burns attended one of Mallis’ past Fashion Icon talks – a 2018 Q&A with acclaimed photographer Arthur Elgort. “He spoke lovingly about their partnership and friendship over the years. I knew I had to have her on stage,” Mallis said.

They discussed the prospect the next night at Elgort’s honorary doctorate award ceremony at Hunter College, Mallis said. “As 92Y reopened for live events, Christy was one of the first to agree to be part of the Fashion Icons comeback.”
