The spokesperson cited “a violation of Twitter’s rules, specifically the COVID-19 misleading information policy.”
In tweets on Sunday and Monday, Greene falsely claimed that COVID-19 is not dangerous for people under the age of 65 who are not obese, and likened the vaccinations to a “human experiment.” Both tweets remained public until Monday night, but were labeled “misleading” by Twitter. Other users cannot reply to them or retweet them, although tweets can be quoted tweets.
Twitter announced a crackdown against misinformation earlier this year, with a “warning” system in place to eventually ban accounts which repeatedly violates its rules. This is clearly Greene’s second attack; five strikes would deserve a permanent ban.
In recent days, the Biden administration has adopted Public pressure on social media companies come do more to reduce the spread of vaccine misinformation on their platform as vaccination rates have dropped and new coronavirus cases have increased across the country.
