The Mississippi native leads the team in rush to land in 2020

NEW ORLEANS – Returning Tulane University sophomore Cameron Carroll was named to the 2021 Doak Walker Preseason Awards Watchlist by the PwC SMU Sports Forum on Monday. The annual forum that awards the nation’s top college football is back in action.

Carroll received the honor after finishing second in the Green Wave list with a total of 741 yards. His 12 hasty touchdowns led the team and finished third in an all-time single season. Carroll scored multiple goals in four games last season for the Blue Wave, topping out with four (three javelin and one take) in victory at Miss South.

The Flowood, Mississippi native, 6.1 yards per take also leads the team and ranks fifth all-time for a season.

Carroll is the second Blue Wave player to receive this year’s pre-season watchlist. He joins teammate Dorian Williams, who earlier this week was included on the pre-season Chuck Bednarik Awards Watchlist.

The PwC SMU Athletics Forum Board of Directors will select 10 semi-finalists in November and three finalists, as voted by the Doak Walker Awards National Selection Committee, to be announced in November. The committee will vote for a second time in December to determine the recipients. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and All-America running colleges, selected media members and special representatives.

Recipients of the Doak Walker Awards 2020 will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards.

This award is named for SMU’s All-America award thanks to the support of Doak Walker. This is the only major university award that requires all applicants to be in good academic standing and graduate on time within one year compared to other students of the same classification.
