Fox News host Tucker Carlson used historical context to gauge why President Biden’s vote count is skyrocketing as he criticizes the administration for a series of policy failures.
In his Friday monologue, Carlson denounced the most recent political poll but noted that in historical context, opinion polls offer some insight into why. Biden’s numbers are too low and going south.
Noting that Biden’s approval seems to have actually taken a hit after the troop withdrawal in Afghanistan, he said that similar foreign policy disasters occurred during the presidency of John F. Kennedy and Gerald Ford do not have the same dangerous effects.
So Joe Biden polls are in the toilet right now, everyone knows that. The question is why? You’ll hear a lot of people say that’s Afghanistan, the real piece of land that Biden has overseen in Afghanistan. The question is is it really? Will a foreign policy disaster be enough to knock out a president in his first year in office? Here are some comparisons.
Gerald Ford’s approval rating after the fall of Saigon is worth considering. The fall of Saigon was the most humiliating moment in the country’s history up to that point. The whole world watched as Americans fled from an army of peasants. Civilians dangling from helicopters taking off from the roof of the US embassy in Saigon. It was a disaster. One that has become a lasting symbol of our incompetence in formulating foreign policy. The US spent over a decade in Vietnam, lost nearly 60,000 people, and we ran away in the end.
And yet, in the days after the fall of Saigon, Gerald Ford’s poll numbers, as measured by Gallup, actually increased. His approval rate increased from 39 to 40%. A month later, at the end of May 1975, Ford’s approval rate had increased to 51%.
President Gerald Ford oversaw an international embarrassment, but the Americans let him pass. They weren’t done with him yet.
Something very similar happened under the John F. Kennedy administration. Kennedy commanded during the Bay of Pigs invasion in April 1961, which he single-handedly turned into a disaster. That disaster made Fidel Castro a national hero in Cuba and pushed Cuba closer to the Soviet Union. All of this happened before the Cuban Missile Crisis.
This is not a good thing for anyone. However, despite that, JFK’s approval rating hasn’t dropped at all, in fact, they’ve increased from 78% to 83%.
“With that in mind, it’s worth considering how Joe Biden’s approval numbers have changed in his first year in office. It’s a clear disaster,” Carlson continued before looking at the current poll showing Biden’s approval rating, along with Vice President Harris’s rating, on file.
“According to a new Quinnipiac poll, only 36% of Americans approve of the job Joe Biden is doing in office. The Real Clear Politics poll average shows Biden only marginally better at about 41%,” he said.
“Gallup has Biden at 42%, down 15 points from just a few months ago. You should know that Kamala Harris’s approval number is 28%, which is about the same as Jeffrey Dahmer,” the host continued.
Carlson then went on to communicate why he believes Americans are supporting the Biden-Harris administration.
“What we are witnessing under the Biden administration is something Americans will absolutely not tolerate: a decline in our standard of living. Biden has not only confounded America on the international stage, although he certainly has. Americans can ignore that as they did under Ford and JFK and hope for something better next time,” he told his audience.
“Biden has made life in this country so much harder for millions of people. He made it a lot harder for Americans to buy basic amenities, things like construction supplies and gasoline,” he added.
“After that, he was barely interested in fixing those things. In fact, it is clear that it is being done on purpose because of global warming,” added Tucker.
“It is shameless. Most people are very tired of it,” said Carlson, after recounting a series of problems that were getting worse under Biden, including the vaccine mandate, turbulent borders, and failed economic policies. solve the supply chain crisis.
“It is not a partisan question. Do you want to live in a convenient country? The question is, how can we survive three years from now? That’s a very good question,” concluded the host.
