Trevor Noah rips off Joe Rogan’s ‘Planet of the Apes’ apology

First, Trevor Noah call Joe Rogan for him racist comments about the meaning of “Black”. Then he reluctant to protect podcaster’s “refreshing” apology for spreading disinformation about COVID-19. So when he started on topic again on Monday night’s episode of The Daily ShowIt was not clear at first which direction he would go.

But when he comes to the latest controversy surrounding Rogan’s the repeated use of “N-word” for many yearsNoah did not hold back.

“If there’s a video that shows you saying ‘the N word’ over and over again,” the host said after sharing the viral footage, “you’d better pray one of two things. Either you are Black or you are a dead person in history. Because then the worst they can do is take your statue down and put it in a museum.”

However, Noah chose to focus on the “even worse” part of the video instead, in which Rogan tells a story about going to the movies. Planet of the monkeys in a Negro neighborhood and joked, “We walked in Planet of the monkeysWe have entered Africa. ”

“Well,” Noah replied, pausing for a long moment. “That video was so bad, it really reminded me of the ‘N-word’ video.”

The presenter then digs into Rogan’s recent apology, in which he flatly denies calling Blacks “apes” and insists that his sole purpose is ” entertainment” on his podcast.

“First, he said he would never say that Negroes were apes, but he did! That’s literally what he said! “Noah shot back. “It’s not just racism. It’s racist OG. It’s old-fashioned, original racism. It was on Mount Rushmore of racism. ‘Black People Are Apes’ sits right next to burning crosses and every Bugs Bunny cartoon from the 1940s.”

But most of all, Noah said he noticed Rogan’s assertion that he was not “racist” but “just for fun”, specifically “to shed light”.

“No, Joe, I think you’re entertaining racism,” Noah said. Even if Rogan isn’t trying specifically to “insult” Black people, “you know that insulting Black people will get laughter from the white friends you go with.”

Then what can only be considered a direct response to comedians like Whitney Cummings and others defended their friends over the weekend by explaining that “our job is needless and dangerous,” Noah explains another important thing about jokes.

“Just because something is a joke doesn’t mean it can’t be something else,” he said. “Because a joke can be racist. In fact, a joke can be racist and funny if you’re telling that to the right crowd. Someone may find it funny, but laughter doesn’t mean there’s no racism.”

To prove it, he pointed to something Joe Rogan said about himself Planet of the monkeys “Prank,” just minutes after he said it. “That’s racist to me,” he admitted at the time.

Noah argues that the only reason he’s denying it right now is that he doesn’t want to be labeled a “racist” for the rest of his life. “As for Joe Rogan, he said he’s learned his lesson, and I hope he’s learned it,” concluded the host. “But I would say, if I were him, I wouldn’t be walking into a movie theater in the Negro neighborhood for a while.”
