So what happened in the plane crash, when was it and what injuries did Barker sustain?

Here’s what you need to know.

When was the plane crash?

The plane crash occurred on September 19, 2008.

What happened in the plane crash?

The plane that crashed was a private Learjet en route to Los Angeles.

Barker was on a plane with his friend Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein after the two performed at an event called TRV$DJAM.

The plane had taken off from Columbia, South Carolina and was scheduled to head west, but never fully took off.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was leaving the airport when air traffic controllers saw sparks flying from the plane and people on board heard a loud bang.

The pilots informed the control tower that a tire had blown and they were aborting the takeoff.

But the plane smashed through the airport fence, crossed a highway and crashed onto an embankment, where it then burst into flames.

What injuries did Travis Barker suffer in the crash?

The crash left Barker with burns covering 65% of his body and many of his signature tattoos covering his body were lost as a result.

During the accident, he was covered in fuel, which ignited.

He managed to slide down the wing to escape and stopped and rolled on the ground to douse the flames.

He nearly lost his foot from the burns he sustained and had to learn to walk again.

He was hospitalized for 11 weeks and underwent numerous surgeries, skin transplants and blood transfusions.

He also suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after the incident.

Did anyone else survive the plane crash?

Barker is now the sole survivor of the crash.

Two of his closest friends died in the accident, along with the two pilots, Barker’s security guard Charles Still and also his assistant Chris Baker.

Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein made it off the jet that day but was also critically injured, suffering third-degree burns to his arm and parts of his head.

Goldstein died a year later of a drug overdose.

Is Travis Barker traveling on planes now?

After the 2008 crash, Barker did not board a plane for 13 years.

He published a memoir in 2015 titled Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums, in which he discussed his lifelong fear of flying and said he refuses to get on planes.

Then, in August 2021, he shared a photo of himself and now-wife Kourtney Kardashian to Instagram with the caption, “With you anything is possible.”
