In the year 2021 League of Legends Before the season, Riot Games introduced some big changes to the MOBA, including two new drags in the elemental roster.
Both Hextech and Chemtech Drake bring their own unique Dragon Soul and map effects when caught, but many players take issue with Chemtech Drake in particular. Neutral targets give the player increased damage against opponents with higher health. Drake also creates large swaths of camouflage across the four jungle quadrants.
The main aspect that players care about is the monster’s Dragon Soul passive. When acquiring Dragon Souls in Chemtech, the player gains a Sion-like passive that respawns for a short period of time after taking lethal damage.
ONE Reddit the topic quickly gained traction when the original poster asked “Does the riot, in fact, admit the Chemtech drake was a mistake and remove it?” While many players on this thread echo similar views, consensus suggests that players are more likely to experience changes than see being eliminated altogether.
In response, two League The developers explained Riot’s philosophy behind removing aspects from the game, as well as addressing rumors that the changes were seen as an insult to the pride of the developers.
“If we come to the conclusion that something is not good, we evaluate the priority to change or remove it. [as] with everything in the league,” wrote game designer GreaterBelugaWhale. “While I personally feel offended that someone would argue that pride will influence my decisions, it should also be noted that pride in a well-made game and happy players can could be a major source of pride for a game developer.”
Riot Axes also confirmed that the dev team is conducting a survey to gauge the overall reaction of the player base to the new pulls. “It will be a bit more before we have the results,” Riot Axes wrote. “The backlash from reddit and English-speaking social media is obvious, but that doesn’t always mean players generally didn’t like a feature in the past.”
While Chemtech Drake may not be removed anytime soon, players can expect changes in the form of balance changes.
