Bucking the trend of tech favoring young legendary troubadour Bob Dylan is the latest name to enter the non-fungible token (NFT) market.

The Nobel laureate has supported a project called Snowcrash along with his son Jesse. The NFT platform is a partnership with Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group and will “bring together diverse segments of technology, creative arts and digital innovation,” according to a press release.

Snowcrash plans to release NFTs for Dylan and jazz legend Miles Davis later this year, with other artists to follow. The company was founded by Jesse Dylan, NFT pioneer Walter De Brouwer and entertainment executive Jeff Rosen.

The company is believed to be named after the Neal Stephenson novel. snow crash was launched in 1992 and contains the first reference to “Metaverse” as the successor to the Internet.

New NFT platform powered by Solana

According to its website, Snowcrash gives “artists, cultural icons, content creators, influencers, celebrities, and brands access to the untapped creative and commercial potential of NFTs.” The platform will run on the Solana (SOL) blockchain.

In December 2020, it was reported that Dylan had sold his 600-song music catalog to Universal Music Publishing for more than $300 million. The sale included all license and management rights.

Snowcrash worked on NFTs for UNICEF to celebrate its 75th anniversary

Snowcrash recently partnered with UNICEF on NFTs to celebrate the organization’s 75th anniversary. Patchwork Kingdoms is a collaboration with data scientist and artist Nadieh Bremer who “paints” with data.

The collection was created in support of the Giga initiative, which aims to connect every school around the world to the internet.

The collection of 1,000 NFTs uses data provided by schools to create a series of patchwork kingdoms.
