Thomas Jefferson statue removed from New York City Hall after complaints that it honors a slave owner

While Jefferson was largely spared, statues honoring Confederate figures such as General Robert E. Lee were removed nationwide in cities and on college campuses. More than 140 Confederate monuments have been removed from public land since Charleston, SC, church shooting in 2015, and about two-thirds of that has dropped by 2020 as a result of Floyd’s killing, according to data tracked by The Washington Post. However, more than 700 Confederate monuments were still standing at the end of last year, along with hundreds of names on roads, schools, parks and the like.
