A young girl was shopping with her mother for Christmas when she noticed a sad little boy. What happened next will make your heart rejoice.
I was shopping at the toy store for the last moments of the New Year and decided to look for Barbie dolls for my nieces and nephews. The girl, dressed in a beautiful dress, looked at the Barbie dolls with excitement as well, and had a small purse in her hand. When she liked Barbie, she turned to her father and asked if he had enough money to buy it.
She would usually say “yes,” but she kept looking and asked, “Am I good enough?” he continued. As she watched, a small child wandered down the aisle and began arranging Pokemon toys. She was dressed neatly, but in a dress that was obviously very worn, and had a shirt on her body that was probably too small in size. He also had money in hand, but it seemed to be a maximum of five dollars or more. She was also with her father, collecting Pokemon video camera toys. Every time he picked one up and looked at his father, his father shook his head, “No.”
The girl apparently chose her own Barbie, which would be a beautiful dress and a sexy doll that could be the envy of any girl on the block. However, she stopped and watched the exchange of the young child and his father. Instead, frustrated, the boy gave up video games and opted for something that looked like a book of stickers instead. He and his father then walked across the other row of the store.
The girl put Barbie back on the shelf and went to play Pokemon. Excitedly, he picked up one that was lying on top of the other toys and, after talking to his father, went out to see him off. I picked up my purchase and queued up behind them. Then, to the delight of the little girl, the younger son and her father stood in line behind me.
After the toy was packed and bagged, the girl handed it back to the cashier and whispered something in his ear. The cashier smiled and put the package under the counter.
I was paying my bills and putting things in my wallet when the little boy came to the cashier. The cashier raised his purchase and then said, “Congratulations, you are my hundredth customer today and you get a prize!” With that, she gave the little boy a game of Pokemon and he can only look at it in disbelief. That, he said, was exactly what he wanted
The girl and her father had been standing in the doorway all this time and I saw the biggest, most beautiful, toothless smile on the face of the girl I had ever seen in my life. Then they came out of the door and I approached behind them. When I returned to my car in amazement at what I had just witnessed, I heard the father ask his daughter why she had done this. I will never forget what she told him.
“Dad, didn’t Nana and PawPaw want me to buy something that would make me happy?”
“Of course they did, honey,” he said.
The girl replied, “Well, I did!”
With that, he laughed and started walking towards their car. His gritted tooth said it all. Apparently, he wondered about the answer to his question, “Am I good enough?” Decided.
I feel so privileged that in that toy store I observed the true spirit of Christmas, in the form of a girl who knows the reason for the season more than most of my adults!
If you think this little girl understands Holidays the most!
