These election results should now scare the Democrats to death

Californians delivered their verdict on liberalism on Tuesday.

In San Francisco, voters dumped Chesa Boudin, the city’s progressive district attorney. This follows the dismissal last February of three school board members for having veered heavily to the left. Meanwhile, down in Los Angeles, an ex-Republican made it into the mayoral runoff. Residents of the Golden State also hit the mute button on the Israel debate.

“Progressive prosecutor” has emerged as another oxymoron – along with jumbo shrimp and military intelligence. Safe streets are in demand now as crime and homelessness ravage the wealthy.

Boudin’s crushing defeat and school board recall bode ill for President Joe Biden and the Democrats. Amidst runaway inflation and the possibility of a recession, the party is being held accountable for its cultural excesses and ignorance as it heads towards the midterm elections.

Meanwhile, Rick Caruso — a former Republican and billionaire real estate developer — narrowly led the race for mayor of Los Angeles, ahead of progressive favorite Karen Bass. The two will face each other in a runoff election in November.

Bass is the former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. In 2017, she delivered a eulogy for a leader of the United States Communist Party. Three years later, Biden considered her a possible running mate.

Caruso received support from Elon Musk, Kim Kardashian and Snoop Dogg. In addition, he received the support of Bill Bratton – the legendary former police chief of Los Angeles and New York City. To make matters worse, Caruso sits on the board of directors of the Ronald Reagan Foundation. Walking across the aisle and coalition politics are difficult, but not impossible.

Don’t bet against Caruso. In the 1990s, Los Angeles elected Republican Richard Riordan. Meanwhile, Latino voters continue to resent the Democrats.

As for the Middle East conflict, pro-Israel Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia appears to have snagged the Democratic nomination for an open congressional seat in Southern California and is likely to run against Republican John Briscoe. Consider the Democratic Mayor the favorite in this race.

On the other hand, the big loser in this race was Cristina Garcia, a state legislator (no relation to the mayor). She fell short of expectations and did not make the runoff. Ms Garcia voted against legislation that would have curbed anti-Israel boycotts and labeled John Pérez, a former congregation speaker, who is gay, as “gay”. For too many, being perceived as both anti-Israel and anti-gay was a bridge too far.

Mayor Garcia summed things up like this: “What’s really important to me about our relationship with Israel is that Israel is the only place in the region where I, as an openly gay person, can walk around with my husband and know that you.” be supported and that you are safe and that you can be openly gay.”

Certainly Israel will not disappear as a campaign issue. In the Michigan primary this summer, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a founding member of the squad and an anti-Israel arsonist, will face a major challenge from Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey. Tlaib has expressed her opposition to Israel as a Jewish state, making her a minority in Congress.

In retrospect, Benjamin Netanyahu’s feud with Barack Obama, America’s first black president, made both Israel and the Democrats worse. Israel is now another agenda item in America’s culture wars – along with guns, abortion and critical racial theory. Biden could end up being the last pro-Israel Democrat in the White House.

The Democrats’ coffee has been burning for a long time, even if they prefer not to notice it. Tlaib has yet to retract her call for the police to be defunded. Bill de Blasio, the failed former mayor of New York City, is running for Congress in late August. Jamaal Bowman, the hapless squad member from the Bronx and Westchester, defied the Infrastructure Act – one of the President’s true accomplishments – while campaigning for his own support for tax cuts for the wealthy.

With Donald Trump out of the White House and gas prices at record highs, Americans are not in a forgiving mood. Mental detachment and escapism are no longer acceptable. The committee hearings on Jan. 6 won’t save them. If the Democrats are lagging behind among Hispanic voters, they’re in trouble. calculation is approaching. It’s not just about the contours of redistribution. These election results should now scare the Democrats to death
