Two years after the first season, The Witcher has returned. Audiences and critics love it: new episodes sits at an impressive 93% on Tomatometer and most agree that it’s an improvement over the (very good) first season. Our Reviewers described the series as “awesome” and “a stormy expansion … with Henry Cavill and company on blistering form.”

The plan is has started for the third season, with Netflix is reportedly interested in up to six seasons of the fantasy epic. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich seems to have a very solid idea of how it will end – when they run out of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. Talk to The Wrap, she speaks:

“I always say that I want to end our story in the same place where Andrzej Sapkowski ended. I just don’t feel the need for us to continue creating stories after his purported ending. … The funny thing is, of course, since we’re working on the series, he’s actually released two new books. ”

It’s not too hard to read this is a subtle poke at HBO Game of Thrones. That show crashes when its events overtake George RR Martin’s books, with the notoriously slow writer still unreleased. Winter winds. Everyone accepts that the show’s deterioration in quality begins when writers deviate from Martin’s work, so it promises that The Witcher will not face the same troubles.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for season 3, even though the prequel show, The Witcher: Blood Origin, will fill the gap with an explanation of how The WitcherThe world’s ends in such a state. More on that when we hear it, but for now I’ll settle in and enjoy watching the last few episodes of the second season of the fantasy favorite.

The WitcherThe second season of the series is available now on Netflix.
