The Witch Queen delay helps Bungie’s next IP ‘problem’

While disappointing, the delay of Destiny 2: Witch Queen was a necessity for Bungie, and now it sets up the studio’s next IP, Matter, to succeed.
When developer Bungie announced that Fate 2‘NS Witch Queen expansion will be delayed By February 2022, there was general acceptance in the community, even if there was some disappointment. The transition of Season of the Lost from a planned 3-month format to a 6-month experience is unprecedented for Fate 2, but if that means the quality of the Sorceress Queen and more importantly, the mental health of the Bungie developers not being affected then it will be worth the wait.
However, the Witch Queen’s delay has also created a situation that could benefit Bungie in the future. Assume that this is not just a one time for Fate 2 release content, there will probably be a change in the entire annual calendar of the game. In essence, each major Fate 2 The expansion will now release in February, and seasons will follow from there.
Of course, Bungie might just need a seasonal pattern change to get back on track for a fall release, but this setup actually has one key benefit. When Bungie finally releases its next game/franchise, it should be able to release in the fall and avoid competition for attention from a major producer. Fate 2 reduce content.
What is Bungie’s “matter”
Although fans don’t know much about Bungie’s next project, it can be speculated that the codename is “Matter” and Fate 2 Director Luke Smith is likely to direct the project. There is some belief that Matter will be bigger Life within its scope, offers an MMO-like experience with PvP elements for fans of Bungie’s competitive modes.
PvP speculation is particularly interesting to consider Fate 2 hasn’t added any major Crucible content like new maps or modes in the past few years. Some believe that a lot of key players from Bungie’s PvP development team are working on Matter, and that the new hires along with some of the mainstay developers will help expand Fate 2by Crucible move forward. Whatever the case may be, the conspiracies surrounding the project are high.
Why Destiny 2: Witch Queen Delay is a Good Thing
There’s no doubt that Matter will get a lot of attention when it’s finally released, but Bungie certainly doesn’t want to compete with itself. Life has found a lot of success by releasing new expansions in the fall (usually September) and avoiding new titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and the like. The problem is most likely figuring out the location right in the September or October release and taking Lifeits location, giving fans the chance to discover all it has to offer during the holiday season.
And suppose that Matter is also a live service game, the cadence for new content releases will be established so that it can release a new expansion every September. Then February brings the next Fate 2 expansion and fans can shift their focus there or split their time between the two if they want to.
While the pandemic can lead to Fate 2: The Witch Queen delay, it could very well be a disguised luck for Bungie. The studio will be able to give its existing franchise the chance to continue to thrive on its usual seasonal pattern, with only slight variations. And its upcoming new game will match Fate 2old release month and compete with other major titles later in the year.
