‘The View’ Host Discusses “Civil War” Brewing in the Republican Party

To watch is not afraid to tackle political controversies and today’s episode is no exception. The panel started things off by discussing the “civil war” raging within the Republican Party and questioning the difference between “show” and “provocative” politicians.
Yesterday, GOP Representative Dan Crenshaw mocked members of the “Freedom Caucus” House of Representatives such as Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jim Jordan, who claimed they would take control of the House after midterms. “There are performers, and there are legislators,” says Crenshaw. “Performers are the ones who get all the attention. People you consider more conservative because they know how to say good slogans… What you hear often is not true. We have predators among us. ”
Organization Joy Behar pointed out that Crenshaw was one of the earliest supporters of the lie that former President Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election. “He doesn’t like these kinds of QAnons wearing that face to dinner. party,” she said. “The truth of the matter is that he’s advocating the big lie anyway.”
Sunny Hostin notes that Crenshaw himself has done productive things, like filming an Avengers-style campaign ad, passing Texas’ restrictive SB 7 voting bill, and touring the US/Mexico border by helicopter.
“I think they all have performance. I see a distinction between performance and provocation,” Sara Haines speak. “[People like Taylor Greene] are provocateurs. They are saying things to any character or reputation, just feel like all journalism is good journalism.”
Still, Haines said she’s glad some Republicans aren’t afraid to criticize members of their own party. “Let [there to be] any hope for Republicans to see that there is something other than Trump and the big lie, they must have different lanes,” she added.
The host also pointed out that seemingly more traditional conservatives are more likely to vote in Trump’s opinion than so-called provocateurs. For example, Haines shared that Crenshaw himself voted with Trump 88% of the time.
“For this party to survive, they will have to feel embarrassed in some way,” notes Joy Behar. “And as far as I can tell, they’re a bunch of shameless people.”
Operator Whoopi Goldberg said that while it felt like American politics had crossed a line, it was the people’s vote that mattered. “[These politicians] forgot why they were there and who they were representing,” she said. “They are not here to represent themselves. They are here to represent you. “
To watch airs weekdays at 11 p.m. on ABC.
