As well as putting its advanced centrifuges, components and materials beyond their capabilities, Iran should be subject to strict scrutiny of any potential weaponization. It has thwarted previous efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency, which promised just enough help to avoid official censorship but still left big questions unanswered. The United States and its partners should demand full cooperation with inspectors before lifting sanctions. In addition, they should firmly enforce the JCPOA’s Section T ban on weaponization, which would require unscheduled inspections of known and suspected nuclear facilities.
