The Suicide Squad Is Getting Another Spinoff From James Gunn

Suicide Squad remains a goldmine of raw material for spin-offs, and writer-director James Gunn is poised to keep digging.

Suicide Squad Recruit James Gunn John Cena Peacemaker Vigilante

Looks like the universe still wants more from the ragtag group of murderous villains who saved the world in Suicide Squad. After the surprisingly great movie that wowed audiences last year, fans were quick to clamor for more content involving their favorite convicted killers. They got their wish in the form of HBO Max series People of Peacebut now, it seems this is not the only thing searched from the content.

Director James Gunn, who directs Suicide Squad and create John Cena in the lead People of Peace series, there seems to be some fresh ideas for anyone who happens to have survived his or her bloodbath in a movie. The Guardians of the Galaxy The director has enjoyed a pretty lucrative decade, so it’s no surprise to hear that he has something else on his mind. But what exactly can fans expect?

Gunn confirmed his plans, albeit in a quick and lack of detail response when asked by Deadline. “We’re working on another one right now, another TV show connected to that universe,” Gunn said, responding. Questions about Suicide Squad, “I can not tell.” This is hardly surprising at this point, especially given the popularity of both Suicide Squad and People of Peace itself, which Gunn is clearly fully aware of. “There’s a really good chance of that,” he said when asked about a possible 2nd season of People of Peace. “We’re the biggest show in the world right now.”

Polka Dot Man, Peacemaker, Bloodsport and Ratcher II in The Suicide Squad

Gunn has made a name for himself as one big surprise maker after another. Few people expect it the popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy, and now he and the team are working on the third and final installment of that beloved series. When he was briefly fired from Marvel Studios after a bad faith campaign digging up his old tweets, he made a deal with DC to create Suicide Squad, making it one of the best movies of 2021. Now, he’s got one hit show on HBO Max and another on the air. Maybe it’s time to stop marveling at his successes.

But who will lead this new spin-off Suicide Squad? Of course, there are many possibilities. A natural choice would be Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, who enjoyed the main role in the film and captured the hearts of many. Same goes for Daniela Melchior who loves Ratcatcher 2. But a recent comment by Gunn on Twitter could be a clue. Back in December, he teased the possibility of a particular return Suicide Squad characterconfirmed that Nathan Fillion’s TDK (The Detachable Kid) was indeed still alive the last time audiences saw him.

So whether it focuses on the character of Fillion or someone completely unexpected, another side story is just one more chance to enjoy that fun and slightly annoying Gunn magic. He definitely knows how to get a reaction from the crowd, that’s for sure. Who else can make viewers sympathize with a man-eating shark while leaving the man-eating shark on screen? No one, that’s who.

People of Peace airs new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max, where Suicide Squad also available.
