The Other One season 2: BBC One release date and cast

Cat and Cathy Walcott find out they have a brother Callum on Holly Walsh’s sitcom The Other One

The Other One, starring Ellie White and Lauren Socha, returns to BBC One for a second series on Friday 6 May.

The film follows two sisters – both known as Catherine Walcott – who only realize the other exists towards the end of their lives. Their late father had a secret second family (and possibly a secret third family as well), which proved something of a shock to both of them.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Other One series 2.

What does it talk about?

The Other One is about Cathy and Cat Walcott, two sisters who only realized that the other existed (and their father had a secret second family) as adults.

It was inspired by a real-life case of a man with two families who gave his children the same name in the hope that it would help him avoid arrest.

Series 2 complicates things even further when it is revealed that there is a third Walcott sibling – the newly discovered brother Callum (which unfortunately wasn’t discovered in time so one of the Catherine knew she shouldn’t have kissed her). he…)

Who is in the cast?

LR: Michelle Austin as Angela, Rebecca Front as Tessa, Ellie White as Cathy, Lauren Socha as Cat, Christopher Jeffers as Callum and Siobhan Finneran as Marilyn (Credit: Joseph Scanlon/BBC)

Ellie White plays Cathy Walcott. You might recognize White from Stath Lets Flats, where she plays Katia, Nadia’s friend (and also plays her brilliantly). Otherwise, you might know her from The Windsors, Inside No. 9, or This Time with Alan Partridge.

Lauren Socha plays Cat Walcott. Socha is best known for her role as Kelly Bailey on Misfits, as well as appearances in The Unloved, Calamity, and Five Daughters.

Rebecca Front plays Tess, Cathy’s mother. Front is best known for her role as Nicola Murray on The Thick of It, as well as other collaborations with Armando Ianucci such as the HBO space satire Avenue 5.

Siobhán Finneran plays Marilyn, Cat’s mother. Finneran has appeared in films such as Rita, Bob, and Sue Too, as well as the TV series Happy Valley, Clocking Off, and Coronation Street.

Christopher Jeffers plays a new addition to the cast of Callum Walcott, Remainer, or Brother. Jeffers most recently appeared in Netflix’s Bridgerton.

Who wrote and directed The Other One?

The series was created by Holly Walsh, a stand-up comedian who also wrote the BBC Two sitcom Motherland.

Walsh directed several episodes of The Other One. The pilot episode was directed by Dan Zeff, who served as the director of the hit episodes of Doctor Who Love and Monsters.

Got a trailer?

No, no, unfortunately. You can’t watch the trailer for The Other One right here.

When and how can I watch The Other One?

The Other One starts on BBC One at 9:30pm on Friday, May 6.

All six episodes will also be available to watch immediately as a box on BBC iPlayer.

Does it have anything to do with The Other Two?

No, it has nothing to do with the HBO Max series about teen pop’s older siblings, but I keep making that mistake, too.

Why should I watch The Other One?

Because Ellie White is so funny in Stath Lets Flats, and here’s the chance to see her in another role.
