The No Man’s Sky 4.0 update expands your inventory and introduces a “relaxed mode”.

For a game that got off to a rocky start, No Man’s Sky continues to reach new galactic heights, and update 4.0 is just around the corner.

Hello Games has apparently worked tirelessly to rebuild No Man’s Sky from the ground up, making it perhaps one of the best space exploration and survival games out there. The game has continued to be privy to updates and improvements since its initial release in 2016 that will benefit long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Here’s the No Man’s Sky Switch trailer from Hello Games.

The 4.0 update is set to coincide with No Man’s Sky’s scheduled October 7th debut on Nintendo Switch, but what does the update actually entail? Well, in an interview with PC Gamer, Hello Games’ Sean Murray tells it all.

Ultimately, the game’s introduction was changed to make it more welcoming to new players or those just grabbing the title on the Switch. Murray also took note of the sheer volume of content in No Man’s Sky and how easily it could overwhelm anyone new to the title; He tells PC Gamer, “In fact, when you come back to the game, there’s a log where you have a summary of the story so far. We have an information portal that collects everything you’ve done so far, everything you’ve unlocked, all that, and gives you more information about it so you can engage with it.”

This allows new and returning players to easily find the information they need and delve further into the story when they feel like it. For players already very familiar with No Man’s Sky, and for those who believe they may have done whatever there is to do, the Journey Milestones have been expanded to offer entirely new objectives for veterans that need to be achieved.

In addition, the inventory has been improved and expanded, so players who jump in with the 4.0 release will have a larger backpack at their disposal. Last but not least, a “relaxed mode” is also introduced. This mode is essentially a version of the game that’s a little less intense; you could call it a “simple” mode I suppose. To balance this out, “Survival Mode” has also been added to make No Man’s Sky all the more intense when you’re up for a challenge.

It’s nice to see No Man’s Sky continue to grow and evolve in 2022. If you haven’t tried it yet or the launch still left a bad taste in your mouth, I can’t recommend enough how awesome this game is in 2022 Now, with a chilled mode that allows players to figure things out and explore the galaxy at your own pace, there really is no better time to give the game a try.
