The Regina Folk Festival returns for its 51st anniversary

About 80 percent of Canada’s mustard seed is grown in Saskatchewan, according to REAL. The province also supplies nearly 29 percent of the world’s mustard seed.

“Saskatchewan is the largest mustard farmer and the largest mustard exporter in Canada,” said Kirk Westgard, vice president of agriculture at REAL.

“A lot of it is grown here near Regina. You don’t have to go far to see farming produced and made in conjunction with a farmer.”

August 3rd through 7th was officially designated “Mustard Spread” week by the city of Regina in celebration of the famous condiment.

“Anywhere in North America, no matter where you go, hot dogs and mustard are best friends, and all of that mustard comes from here in Saskatchewan,” Westgard said. When Westgard was asked if he preferred ketchup or mustard, all he could do was laugh.

To really solidify the mustard capital, a new product called “Queen City Mustard” has been created and is currently available from Regina Ex.

Rides, food and entertainment: Queen City Ex 2022 has officially begun

“Queen City Mustard underscores the importance of the harvest to Saskatchewan’s economy and that it is a staple of exhibits everywhere,” said Tim Reid, CEO of REAL, in a press release. “We want Regina to be Canada’s mustard capital!”

The 12 oz jars retail $5 and are available at the Queen City Ex merchandise stand in the QCX Marketplace in the Viterra International Trade Center (VITC) hallway.

All proceeds from Queen City Mustard are donated to the Regina Food Bank.
