The new Blood Showrunner talks about the shocking ending and the possibility of a continuation

The following contains spoilers for the end of Dexter: New BloodNow then Dexter: New Blood has ended its limited release period, many fans are understandably curious about the future of the series. The Showtime sequel promises to create another crack in the rather scandalous ending compared to the original Dexterand can provide some ending for viewers who don’t want to. But was it successful?
Showrunner Clyde Phillips, who led them all Dexter: New Blood and the first few seasons of the original Dexter , seems to think the program has accomplished what it set out to do. The 10th and final episode witnessed Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan finally meet his death at the hands of his own son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), after being suddenly forced to face all the harm that he did to good people over the years. But while this certainly seems like a sure-fire end to the story, perhaps there’s still room for more.
Speaking to Deadline about the finale, Phillips addressed a number of questions, including whether the conclusion was planned from the beginning (or at least production began on the same day). New blood). “We knew this had to happen, and I think it had to happen for the audience as well as for the characters,” Phillips said. “To see him get caught over and over and get out of it again and again is a detriment to the audience.” As split because this finale could be between fans, it’s pretty clear that it wasn’t just some random decision. Dexter will never have a happy ending, and Hall himself knows and appreciates that fact.
“So very soon when I went to talk to Michael,” Phillips continued, “about two and a half years ago in early July 2019, I told him my idea. We met after that. I got a call from Showtime president Gary Levine who told me they wanted to watch this. Michael gave me a big hug and said to me, ‘I’m in.’ He knows how this is going to end.” Instead of being different from the way Harrison Ford wanted Han Solo dead literally for decades, Hall’s enthusiasm for a fitting ending for Dexter seems less exhausted about the character than simply knowing how he thinks a story like this will end.
Phillips went on to unequivocally confirm Dexter’s death, casting off any myths about his ability to survive in the infancy. “I have three words for you: Dexter is dead,” he said, emphatically. “I wouldn’t do that to the audience. That wouldn’t be honest. Here, there’s no doubt that this is the finale of the show. Dexter. Dexter is dead. “But interestingly, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the overarching story ends here. When asked about how a sequel could be possible, Phillips seemed to have some ideas.” everything Dexter did, which surprised Dexter,” he said, musing about How morally inconsistent is Harrison can continue from here. “Think of how many lives we save every time we kill one of these bad guys, that this bad guy won’t kill. Dexter never thought of that. Dexter just killed the bad guy. bad because it’s his code.”
It might be a long shot, but there’s definitely a definite possibility that Dexter The legend could continue with Harrison being the driving force. Fans have been speculating about this idea since the beginning Dexter: New Blood, but it’s hard to tell if it will perform as well as the original series. It seems up to Phillips and Showtime to see if fans find out.
