Rolex watches in Hawk Eye

Rolex watches were first seen in Hawk Eye Episode 1 when Kate Bishop ends up in a black market auction where items from the Avengers Complex are being sold. The auction was interrupted by the Tracksuit Mafia looking specifically for the watch.

In a recent episode 4, Clint and his wife Laura Barton discussed a Rolex watch during a phone call. Clint believes the watch was destroyed long ago, however, Laura suspects that the watch may also have been stolen, like Ronin’s suit.

So Clint asks Laura to track the watch using its transmitter signal. She hunted for the item and texted the address of an apartment where the Rolex currently resides. It turns out that Echo aka Maya Lopez owns this apartment and she attacked Kate, who went there to steal the watch.

Whose watch? Hawk Eye belong to?

When questioned by Kate, Clint said that the Rolex belonged to someone he knew, and that person’s identity was tied to the watch so it couldn’t fall into the wrong hands.

At the time of writing, it has been confirmed who owns the Rolex in Hawk Eye but we have a theory about who that person might be.

One might think that the watch was used by Clint during his time as Ronin. But that seems unlikely as Clint says that the owner of the watch has been ‘out of the game’ for a long time and he is unable to unmask their secret.

My best guess is the Rolex watch in Hawk Eye probably belongs to Laura. Here are some reasons to support this theory:

Laura Barton at Hawkeye

First, we know nothing about Laura’s past before she married Clint. She can speak German like an expert and is quite adept at gathering information like a spy. Most likely Laura was a SHIELD Agent before she married Clint and was “out of the game” as Hawkeye mentioned.

Or it could be an old gift from Laura to Clint when they were young and maybe it was engraved with whatever old name she used as a SHIELD agent.

We can combine this with the fact that Echo was able to figure out the identities of the Clint Barton family including their wives, children and their respective ages. So there is definitely something that ties Laura or Clint to a Rolex watch and this is why Hawkeye is desperate to find it.
