The sunshine state had its best sports season last year with two major league sports championships. The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the NHL and the NFL brought home multiple championships to the state for the first time. However, they are not the only ones from the state to win, let’s have a look at history and the past Floridian major league winners.
Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins won back-to-back championships in 1972-73. With the legendary coach Don Shula, who headed the franchise from 1963 until 1995 the team made 5 Super Bowl appearances. Even though the team consisted of one of the most legendary quarterbacks, Dan Marino, the team wasn’t able to create a new dynasty and grab on to another title. The team has not made the playoffs since 2016. Miami Marlins
This baseball team from Miami won two World Series back in 1997 and 2003. Back then the team was known as the Florida Marlins and in the 1997 season, they were the first team to win the championship from a wild card. Their second World Series title also came from a wild card and they are one of only two teams two not to have won a division title. In 2020 the team appeared in the playoffs the third time but wasn’t able to win the World Series as a wild card this time.

Miami Heat
This is a team that has made the playoffs on several occasions and won division, conference, and NBA titles. The Miami Heat appeared in the NBA Finals of the 2020 season but lost 4-2 to the eventual champions Los Angeles Lakers. The 3-time NBA winners took their first title back in 2006 and since brought home back-to-back titles in 2012-13, with Dwayne Wade taking part in all of them. Even though Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and Lebron James are not a part of the team anymore, they should still be in with a chance to take home another title for the franchise.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The ice hockey franchise has won the last two editions of the Stanley Cup final and will now look to be the first team since the New York Islanders to take home three Stanley Cups in a row. With Steven Stamkos leading the team once again the team has been off to a good season so far and will look to keep their momentum going into this year’s playoffs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Then the then 42-year-old Tom Brady signed for Tamba Bay Buccaneers most people thought that it would be a final swan song set to fail. But oh, how he made the team sing. Starting the 2020 NFL season, the franchise had not made it to the playoffs since 2007. That was changed, big time last year. With a surprising run that culminated with an upsetting Super Bowl win against Kansas City Chiefs, the franchise not only won their first title since 2002 but also made Tom Brady the winner of more Super Bowl trophies than any franchise in history. He will look to extend that record heading into the 2022 playoffs.
