Every great character design starts with a unique element that makes them stand out instead of being just another face in the crowd.
Instead of being seen as a weakness or disadvantage, eyepatches were used to give characters a mysterious advantage and show off their unwavering endurance in the heat of the battlefield. Here are some of the most iconic video game characters sporting a stylish eye patch.

: Lost Eye in an incident where a spell was intended to prevent the Bombinomicon from possessing it
Demonman is the famous one TF2 Scottish Demolitionist and is one of the most versatile characters on the list. With plenty of time on his hands due to a rough childhood as an orphan, Demoman later took an interest in explosives. He eventually honed his skills in crafting and manipulating explosives, but not before losing an eye while attending the Crypt Grammar School for Orphans.
Despite being stuck with an eye patch now, he should consider himself lucky that after all these years of dealing with dangerous explosives, he ended up losing just one eye!

Xigbar, the Nobody of Braig (and Luxu by extension), serves as the antagonist for the series and is associated with both Organization XIII and Real Organization XIII and was known for helping Roxas, another member of the Organization, occasionally assisted with Sora on missions prior to his conflict.
Due to Xigbar’s status as a Nobody, his missing eye stems from the injuries his original/human form Braig received from his battle with Keyblade wielder Terra.

Wolf is the leader of Star Wolf, aka Fox McCloud’s rival from the star fox Series. While there’s no doubt Wolf wears the one-eyed aesthetic well, the reason for his eye covering is a bit of a mystery.
There is no canon information about Wolf losing an eye in battle or in an accident. Wolf’s previous appearances in Star Fox command and Star Fox: Attack also means Wolf can see through his left eye as he wears a handy scouter/visor instead of a cover. To make things even more puzzling, early concept art of Wolf for star fox 2 Wolf has his signature eyepatch on his right eye rather than his left!

Captain Beidou might not be the only one Genshin Impact Character with an eye patch, but she’s definitely the one most fans will think of first (sorry, Kaeya). Beidou resides in Liyue as the fleet captain of her crew, The Crux, and is an electrovision user.
As a pirate, Beidou would not be complete without an eye patch. Pirates were known to use eye patches to preserve their sight when going below decks; Keeping one eye adapted to the dark while the other is still exposed to the light is probably why Captain Beidou uses one too.

Undine is Undertale‘s resident fish-like monster and treasure of royal scientist Alphys. Undyne is the incredibly determined leader of the “elite” group, the Royal Guard. Not only is Undyne talented on the battlefield, she also has a great sense of fashion, as she tends to change her look depending on the situation. Undyne wears a dark eyepatch in battle, while she swaps it out for a light one on dates with Alphys.
However, after her HP reaches zero and she enters her immortal form, she drops the eyepatch entirely, revealing her empty eye socket and unleashing her spear-shaped light attack.

Beatrix is the fearless supreme general of Alexandria’s female army and the most feared soldier in Gaia. She appears as a boss, but later also appears as a playable character available on the player’s team. Beatrix is the perfect soldier, apart from her arrogance, which sometimes sees through.
She is a strong leader, but addresses those close to her in a much softer tone and manner. Although there was no formal explanation as to how she got her silver eye patch, it’s safe to assume that she probably lost it during a bitter struggle.

D-Dog (sometimes referred to as “DD”) is a wolf with a full-time job at Mother Base for the private military company Diamond Dogs. On an early mission in Metal Gear Solid 5Venom Snake encounters a small injured puppy who seems to like him.
After being sent back to Mother Base via the Fulton system, DD is trained to become Venom’s own attack dog and fitted with his own smooth eyepatch to cover his missing eye (just like his owner!).

Sagat is the famous final boss of the original street fighter and the famous “Emperor of Muay Thai”. Once a member of Shadaloo, Sagat is widely regarded as an icon street fighter Antagonist, though he eventually changes and leaves the organization.
Prior to Sagat’s change of heart, he had challenged Go Hibiki to a fistfight in which Go gouged Sagat’s eye out after recognizing it as an obvious weakness. At that moment, in a rage, Sagat summoned the powerful Tiger Shot, instantly killing Go.

Goro Majima made his debut in the yakuza Series in the original game in 2005 (Japan release)/2006 (North America release). Since his introduction, he became such a popular fan favorite that he returned as a supporting character in later games and even became a playable protagonist Yakuza 0 and Yakuza: Dead Souls.
While many video game characters have accidentally lost an eye, in the heat of a fight, Majima lost his left eye as a punishment. After being ambushed for his refusal to back down from a planned assassination, he was tortured and eventually had his eye gouged out with a blade, leaving him with his iconic tough guy appearance.

While there are some good candidates in the metal gears Of the shows that have mysterious eye patches, Big Boss himself is by far the most iconic. Big Boss was the renowned Special Forces agent who served as the base for the government project Les Enfants Terribles.
During Operation Snake Eater, Boss (then referred to as Naked Snake) was captured by Volgin and Ocelot. In an attempt to save EVA from Ocelot’s Russian roulette, Snake poked Ocelot as he took the shot, injuring his eye in the process and leaving him with his signature eye patch.

2B wears what is more accurately called a “cover” or blindfold, rather than the typical eyepatch. 2B, an android, doesn’t need a normal pair of human eyes to see properly; In fact, the cover around her and companion 9S’s eyes acts as a HUD-like visor, giving them more information about their surroundings.
In addition to her android utility, 2B creator Yoko Taro explained that 2B and 9S’ blindfolds serve as a useful analogy showing how they (YoRHa entities) are blind to the truth.
