“Glad days are right here once more,” Billy Crudup’s ambitious network president Cory Ellison remarks throughout The Morning Present’s newest trailer, which dropped on Monday. Regardless of his appraisal, the sequence seems to be gentle on merriment heading into its second season. Following an explosive season 1 finale, through which UBA’s star anchors Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) expose the community’s poisonous office tradition, fallout from the on-air stunt is now in every single place.
The Morning Present returns on September 17—simply two days earlier than the upcoming Emmys. That premiere date means that Apple needs to place the present as its premier awards drama. (The streamer has already dominated the comedy field with 20 Emmy nods for Ted Lasso.) The Morning Present was Apple’s first major series, and the nearer it bought to its twisty season 1 conclusion, the extra it gained momentum (and buzz). Given references to present occasions (coronavirus, reckoning with racial inequality) and high-profile solid additions (Julianna Margulies, Hasan Minhaj), season 2 is poised to construct on that success.
When the sequence returns this fall, Aniston and Witherspoon are again as dueling co-anchors alongside Crudup, Steve Carell, Mark Duplass, and Marcia Homosexual Harden. UBA’s news crew will largely return with solid members Bel Powley, Karen Pittman, Nestor Carbonell, Desean Terry, Janina Gavankar, and Tom Irwin. New co-stars embrace Greta Lee as tech government Stella Bak, Holland Taylor as Cybil Richards, the UBA board chairwoman; Ruairi O’Connor as Ty Fitzgerald, a YouTube star; Tara Karsian as Gayle Berman, a news producer; Valeria Golino as Paola Lambruschini, a documentary filmmaker, and Will Arnett in an unspecified position.
In an effort to take care of some stability on the community, Cory Ellison entices Alex again to the anchor’s desk. “You’re the solely factor that may save us,” he says. However that re-hiring doesn’t seem to sit down effectively with Bradley, who explains, “I really feel like I’m bringing in my huge sister to scrub up my mess.”
Created by Kerry Ehrin, The Morning Present has all the time been involved with office energy dynamics. That theme is alive and effectively in season 2 previews, which teases the departure of UBA anchor Daniel over racial inequality and arrival of recent rent Laura, which causes pressure between Alex and Bradley. “In case you forgot, I’m the whistleblower. I’m gonna get every little thing I would like,” Witherspoon’s Bradley warns.
Season 2 of Apple’s The Morning Present debuts on September 17 with subsequent episodes airing weekly.
