The Last of Us’ hunt for Sam’s role gives fans a hint at the state of development
HBO’s The Last of Us is currently casting the character Sam, which means the development is a lot earlier than previously thought.
It was the year that everyone Our Last One Fans have been eagerly waiting. Unfortunately, we had to anticipate as we wouldn’t see the show until next year. Even so, it looks like HBO is gearing up for a memorable dive into the popular post-apocalyptic Naughty Dog game.
Of course, we haven’t seen the official trailer yet but there’s been plenty of sneaky behind-the-scenes footage that keeps our excitement at an all-time high. As we get a little closer and production resumes after the holidays, HBO’s casting call for Sam could tell us where the show is in development. .

Our Last Timeline
We know that HBO will have some changes Our last compared to the game so far including five Outbreak Dates changed from 2013 to 2003, placing the show in 2023 instead of 2033.
But if they are following the general timeline of Our Last One and as HBO is still looking for someone to play Sam, it certainly shows that development is still very much in the early stages, which of course makes sense that it won’t air until 2023.
In the game, Joel and Ellie are first introduced to Sam and his brother Henry fairly early on in Pittsburgh after Tess becomes infected and before going to Jackson to reunite with Tommy. Although a lot happened before Sam was introduced like Firefly finding out that Ellie was immune and Joel, Tess, Ellie evading the army and reaching downtown Boston, it still shows HBO remaining how much to cover.
Although the film has been filming since last summer, production on the project is still continuing at the moment, which means that a release this year is always unexpected. So, merely HBO casting Sam at this exact moment, the development could lie somewhere around Joel, Tess, and Ellie’s adventures in crumbling downtown Boston.
We also know that TV studios can sometimes shoot certain scenes first and then fill in previous scenes as they arise so that they are then stitched together, so this is also possible. is the case that they actually go further.
Either way, with Neil Druckmann as the show’s executive producer, one of the screenwriters and directors, fans can rest assured that the adaptation will stay true to the original game and to all of us. will finish their hard work when Our last broadcast in 2023.
