The Kang Dynasty is directed by Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will direct the next installment in the Avengers series.

Marvel made some pretty big announcements during their live-action panel at San Diego Comic-Con, not the least of which was the reveal of two new Avengers movies in the pipeline: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, both of which will be released in 2025 and will conclude the Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. Now Marvel has announced that The Kang Dynasty has found its director, and it’s someone the studio has worked with before.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Destin Daniel Cretton is directing 2021 Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will direct the next entry in the Avengers series. Along with this latest job from the studio, Cretton will be kept busy with the upcoming Wonder Man series for Disney Plus, along with a sequel to Shang-Chi planned for some time in the future (though not as part of Marvel’s many was drafted announcements during the SDCC).

Although both Avengers projects will likely remain secret, there are several aspects of each that can be gleaned from the titles alone. It’s been known for a while that Kang (played by Jonathan Majors) will be the big bad in the next stages of Marvel, with the character already being introduced Loki (or at least some variant of the character). Kang is also said to be the main villain of the upcoming one Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Marvel’s heroes will likely need to confront the time-travelling entity before potentially facing an even greater threat Secret Wars.

Something else that isn’t known at this point is what the Avengers team will even look like given how many new heroes have or will find their way into the MCU over the next few years. Regardless, both upcoming Avengers movies appear to be taking a similar approach as Infinite War and endgame, by releasing them back-to-back within a few months, potentially serving as a larger, two-part story. Before those films hit theaters, however, Marvel fans will be able to meet the latest incarnation of the Fantastic Four, who could play big roles in either of the Avengers movies.

Cretton has proven he is more than capable of handling a huge, action-packed film Shang Chi It has received praise for both its engaging story and action scenes (the bus fight in particular has received high praise for its fight choreography and creativity). Cretton is only the first director to be announced for these future projects, but he could be in good company if Marvel is serious about courting a big name Fantastic Four. Anyhow, after a somewhat bumpy phase four, it looks like Marvel Studios is getting back on track.
