One of the most heartbreaking moments in Great British Baking Show history happened in this year’s Semi-Final. Four excellent bakers entered the tent and one baker was forced to go home. Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith decided that after weeks of dominating the competition, Jürgen Krauss was overwhelmed by Chigs Parmar, Crystelle Pereiraand the ultimate winner Giuseppe Dell’Anno. Jürgen was out. It’s really shocking. Furthermore, the judges gave no real reason why the ax fell on Jürgen, Ask questions from fans.
However, Jürgen was in Great British Baking Show final’s night. Mentally, at least. During the Ultimate Showstopper Challenge, Chigs revealed to host Matt Lucas that one of his Mad Hatter Tea Party cakes – the pastry mushrooms – was “all thanks to Jürgen” because of the German baker. taught Chigs that method. It was a small moment, but it left a huge impact on me. One of the highlights of Great British Baking Show is how bakers form a kind of family found, but Chigs’ comment goes a step further. He reveals that his success is in large part thanks to the help of the Teutonic giant. And personally? I love it.
Since this season of Great British Baking Show premiered back in September, it’s clear Jürgen is one of the most talented bakers to ever make a name for the Bake Off tent. He attacks the cakes with a combination of glee and precision. As the season progressed, it became clear that Jürgen was greatly loved by his fellow bakers. When “German Week” was launched, everyone sang praises to Jürgen for his help in the Practice Tent. When “German Week” may not be entirely fair to the good old Jürgen, he was more than a sports man. He is a star.
Jürgen may not have won this season Great British Baking Show, but his performances as a baker have made him legendary. He wrote a letter confirming that he was OKAY with the way that things change (and see that he has linked management on his IG page, I’m sure we’ll see and hear more from the baker in the future). Jürgen’s future is very bright.
However, I was deeply moved when I saw his presence in the tent during the finale of Great British baking show. When Chigs explains how Jürgen helped him with his big Showstopper, it’s like Jürgen’s talent is still in the mix. Jürgen may not have played that day, but his talent was on display. His knowledge was honored. His work has been praised.
The fact that Chigs was able to give that praise to Jürgen shows how great both bakers, and indeed all bakers, have been this season. Jürgen’s influence on the contest goes beyond just his cakes. The legacy of Jürgen’s Bake Off is his knowledge, kindness, and spirit. Jürgen may not have officially made it to the final, but he’s still there. And while he didn’t win the cake stand, he is still our baking champion.
