The Complete Guide to Conditioner | Beauty Science Podcast | Seductive

For too long, conditioner has been used to wash hair like Robin for Batman, Ron for Harry, George for Jerry… it can be said, it’s a good combination. Although shampoo simply cleans, it somehow all of credit for the fresh and bouncy feeling that comes from washing your hair. But in reality, that feeling comes from conditioner: It restores the appearance of lipids your hair has lost to environmental damage, heats styling – you call it – and in turn leaves your hair soft. and noticeably glossier than shampoo alone.

We at Seductive‘NS The Science of Beauty Podcast admit that we have perpetuated the stereotype that shampoo is better by offering the whole episode to it last season. So this time, hosts Jenny Bailly, beauty executive, and Dianna Mazzone, senior beauty editor (and yours, indeed), are addressing that mistake by doing the same thing. conditioner – with a little help from Dr. Jeni Thomas, global lead scientist for Pantene.

The episode is filled with fascinating tidbits that will change the way you choose and use conditioner – so much, in fact, that we can’t do all of it here. So check out a few seasons below and be sure to listen to the entire episode.

Leaving the conditioner on for too long does not make the conditioner work better.

While Dr. Thomas says there’s no harm in letting conditioner soak into your hair while you shave your legs or meditate in the shower, contrary to popular belief, there’s really no need to wait before rinsing. The very act of rinsing, says Dr. Thomas, releases the active ingredients in the formula so they can work.

Conditioner is really extra beneficial for people with fine hair.

If you have fine hair, you’ve probably been conditioned (no pun intended) to apply the substance with your hands very lightly to avoid weighing down your strands. But according to Dr. Thomas, a strand of fine hair can have 50% less protein than a thick strand of hair – so people with fine hair are actually most need the lipid boosting power of conditioner.

Combination shampoo – conditioner – body wash is not your friend.

No one – and no single product – is good at everything, which is why Dr. Thomas says to stay away from 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 formulas unless you’re willing to sacrifice performance. “I can tell you it’s not in my bathroom,” she said.
