The change of the Steam Labs store greatly improves the quality of life

Valve is constantly working on improvements to its PC game storefront, Sauna. These improvements are rare, in part because Sauna were too popular and successful, so Valve instead released them as what it called a Steam Lab experiment. Steam users can opt-in to these experiments, which can be added to the full platform if they are well received. The latest Steam Labs test is once again trying to improve Steam’s recommendations with a feature Valve calls the Store Hub.

VIDEO GAME OF THE DAY

If opted in, the Store Hub experiment will replace, improve, or add to all Steam catalog and site tag. If a Steam user goes to the front page of the store, there’s a button at the top that says “Category” and this is where the Store Hub enhancements can be found. Before getting into the specifics, Valve explained that all of these improvements are designed to improve browsing and filtering of game categories, in order to help Steam users find more games that they want. interested and want to play.

The first major feature that has been changed is the carousel feature found in each of Steam’s categories. Has the user clicked “Free to play, “” Action”, “Co-op”, or “Open World”, this new carousel will be found at the top of the page. The carousel will feature a range of new, best-selling and discounted games from categories are filtered through each Steam user’s unique recommendation profile. Each slide on the carousel will also feature additional information like Steam review scores, release info, and more.

In addition to the carousel there will be various sections, just like in Steam’s current catalogs. Sections will include games currently available in-game events and games with recent updates, as well as highlighted announcements from developers featuring games featured in the catalog. As a result, the priority is not only on games that Steam users may have overlooked, but also games that currently have new content and an active player base.

Other new features include improved recommendations, fueled by categories and tags tied to games Steam users play regularly and strong reviews. Steam seems to want to pay special attention to this, as better recommendations result in a better experience for all users. However, automatic suggestions are not all that will be featured. Games from Steam Users’ wish list will also be displayed in the appropriate Store Hubs, plus users will be able to use more powerful filtering tools to search for exactly the type of game they’re looking for.

Steam users can opt in to Steam Labs Experiment #13 right now, and they’ll be able to peruse the Store Hubs at their leisure. Whether it comes on the full version of Sauna will depend on the success and adoption of the Store Hubs, but this new feature seems like a full complement from Valve.
