On Monday, Washington finally overcame the hump, defeating the Anaheim Ducks, 4-3, in a penalty shootout at the Capital One Arena. Defender John Carlson was the winner in the fifth round, beating Ducks goalkeeper John Gibson after Capital’s Ilya Samsonov turned down Sonny Milano.
