The best superhero movie of 2021

2021 is a year of need Superman, and the boy did it. After the delay of 2020 caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year has seen at least one Marvel characters appear on the screen every two months.

It was also the year of Jack ‘The King’ Kirby. The famous comic book author’s most spectacular universes are on film like never before. Justice League by Zack Snyder appeared out of nowhere to unleash an epic vision of Kirby’s Fourth World for the DC Extended Universe. Crossing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the eternal Adapted from Kirby’s ambitious 1970s story.

It’s been an exciting year for the MCU, featuring more releases than ever and receiving the most reviews ever. It had to wait until after filming ended for Marvel to launch its ambitious streaming series on Disney Plus, but in late 2021 it was Sony’s spiderman bag that carried the MCU’s weight even more. Marvel the eternal.

This is a year where behind-the-scenes films of the genre compete with on-screen action. That includes Zack Snyder’s inability to return to the DCEU as HBO Max tries to make its mark and Scarlett Johansson’s unfortunate confrontation with Disney.

But this list is all about what happened on screen. In a year where some franchises stumble, others skyrocket or take their first steps. Here’s our ranking of the best movies of a year starring superheroes.

ten. Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins

Snake eyes

This GI The Joe The spin-off marks a new direction for the franchise. It explored the origins of its iconic characters, but unfortunately, this approach may have fallen into its net in the first place due to its disappointing box office performance.

Snake Eyes is an interesting first choice as a focus character in solo movie form. He’s a recognizable member of the GI Joe lineup, but mostly because of his masked face and perpetual silence. There are similarities to a certain Merc with a Mouth and Paramount has learned from X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s Mistakes. Even so, it can’t rustle Deadpool. The film’s story and character changes have been criticized, but Snake eyes’ the main problem is no luck. It came out just a month ago Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings discovered a similar web of criminal organizations, underground fighting clubs, and ancient clans.

9. the eternal

Chloé Zhao won the Academy Award for Best Director between the filming and release of this epic compilation. It carries many of the director’s marks, but the eternal is a risky proposition for Marvel despite its impressive cast and crew. The source material ⏤ Jack Kirby’s incredible and imaginative universe building ⏤ can only be diluted in a real-life adaptation. It’s even more earnest Guardians of the Galaxy but lacks the construction of The Avengers.

the eternal‘disappointing response is not only unwanted recording it can put in MCU. It is competing with Black Widow was the first film in the franchise not to earn a sequel since The Incredible Hulk, though signaling how the shared universe can grow deeply and mature.

8. Black Widow

Black Widow’s solo film was marked by unfortunate events, pandemics, and setbacks between the star and the studio. The prequel always felt like a strange move, but it did give Marvel the opportunity to stage a James Bond movie, featuring cold war plot and an extravagant, radar-defying establishment. for its antagonist. Despite its functional plot, it’s chock full of horrible ideas and brutal moments that set an eerie tone.

It’s the dysfunctional “family” at the heart of the movie that saved the day. As we lose Black Widow in the MCU, it’s only fitting that she leaves behind some great family members to continue her work, including fan-favorite Yelena Belova.

7. Venom: Let There Be Carnage

venom for carnage

This is the second installment in Sony’s new Spider-Man Universe without Spider-Man… to date. No adaptation of Carnage’s attachment to serial killer Cletus Kasady can rival the epic scope of the original comic book, but Venom The next part knows not to break the mold. It’s doubled down on fast-paced comic horror and a strong cast led by Tom Hardy as both Eddie Brock and the hilarious symbiote that has stuck with him. Given the following events of the film, it is likely that Venom’s The third outing will push the boundaries a bit more than its predecessors.

6. Matrix Recovery

resurrection matrix

Finally, the tardiness Matrix The sequel has arrived and explores aging superheroes and a sense of legacy unlike other blockbusters. Revival corrected some criticism in previous sequels but it is not Through the looking glass arrive Matrix‘S Alice in Wonderland that many fans want. Still, it’s thrilling to have these heroes return, even if the film’s meta obsession blurs the lines between realities and doesn’t leave them with much to do. While it compulsively reinterprets bullet time, Revival not likely to influence superhero movies for the next 20 years the way the original did.

5. Free boy

free guy 4

Ryan Reynolds’ stealthy superhero return was wisely broken before Matrix give back. If you suspect that this is a superhero movie, check out that first scene (and its sneak peek). What’s different is that we’re superheroes, or rather every video game player who witnesses Guy’s hopelessly upbeat NPC’s origin story. It acts as a combination of Lego movies, Matrix, Tron, They live, and Truman’s show. But somehow, if you ignore Tika Waititi’s over-the-top performance, this fun and humorous film feels fresh as well – very likely the start of a new Hollywood series.

4. Justice League by Zack Snyder

justice league zack snyders

It’s hard to believe Justice League by Zack Snyder exist. The background to this four-hour epic is well documented, as is the passionate (and still raging) campaign to bring Snyder’s interpretation of the DC Universe to the screen. That still seems unlikely, but this is a huge improvement over 2017 Alliance justice is a good trio closer.

It won’t attract anyone who isn’t convinced by Man of Steel or Dawn of Justice, but it succeeds in embodying the early ambitions of the DCEU and addressing many of the franchise’s early criticisms. There’s subtle humour, incredible action, and some of the greatest legend-making superheroes ever seen on film. Every hero has his time to shine, especially Ray Fisher’s important and important role for Cyborg.

3. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi joining the MCU is a breath of fresh air. Like Black Widow, it delves into the dark side of its protagonist’s history, but the result is bold, colorful, and heartfelt. He’s also very confident just look at the way he happily picks up the plot threads that have been hanging since Iron Man 3. At the heart of it is a charismatic turn from Simu Liu, which has proven to be one of the MCU’s most tried-and-true casting choices in years. That’s what’s needed to get the MCU’s Phase Four back on track. The Avengers will be in good hands.

2. Suicide Squad

James Gunn’s arrival in the DCEU was messy, but it all turned out well for DC, Marvel, and most importantly, the fans. Suicide Squad is a triumph that ultimately fulfills the potential of Task Force X. Its combination of action, violent comedy, humour, and romance makes it Gunn’s most complete superhero film yet. hitherto.

Some thought that the conspiracies of the Harley Quinn faction derailed the story, but she shined at the hands of one of her greatest screenwriters to date. While the film’s performance has been marred by its home release, the addition of that definitive article sets a new milestone for the DCEU’s exciting R-rated future.

first. Spider-Man: There’s no way home

It took Sony eight live-action movies to get here, but they produced the final piece in the end Spiderman a movie about great power and even greater responsibility. There is no way home is a nostalgic Christmas present that celebrates Spidey’s 20 years of cinematic history and modifies it. Along the way, it brought the loudest cheers, cheers and sobs heard in movie theaters this year. Even an action in between tries to solidify exactly what Spider-Man and his nemesis stand for.

While Peter Parker shines, the film’s biggest success is its reassertion of one of the best spoof galleries in the comics. No good comic book villain stays dead forever, and glides to the top of that pack, There is no way home Warn Spider-Man Green Goblin’s ultimate enemies in devastating style. This is the most hyped Spiderman movies of all time deliver, and Michael Giacchino’s score deserves credit for bringing it all together. It’s a movie that rewards dedicated moviegoers, delights fans, and opens a new chapter for friendly neighborhood webslingers.

With a look to the future as much as to the past, Spiderman The universe has never been so exciting. Sony is in solid form as it explodes into 2022, a year ended by Morbius and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Part One. The best superhero movie of 2021
