The best bar in the world for 2021 is… The Connaught Bar in London

In a press release, the organization said on Tuesday that Connaught “always stayed true to the principles of modern, artistic beverage presentation with attentive service.” The bar’s menu includes a mix of classics – the Connaught Martini features Tanqueray No. 10 Gin with a blend of vermouth, plus more creative sips. One drink, Ellipses, features edible paint dots on a square block of ice.

While Connaught may have earned Britain the top spot, the top 50 list is dominated by bars in other languages. For example, Singapore has six bars on the chart, with the highest ranking being Jigger & Pony at number nine.

Several US bars have also cut back, including three in New York: Katana Kitten (no 10), Dante (30) and Attaboy (34). Dante, a bar in Greenwich Village that specializes in Italian cocktails, has been named best bar in the world 2019 at Tales of the Cocktail, another prominent industry forum.

The announcement of the list of the 50 best bars in the world comes as beverage businesses are still trying to recover from the pandemic, which has forced many bars to close for months in a row and caused the industry to suffer. This industry was stigmatized even after reopening. By their very nature, bars bring people together in often tight spaces – as opposed to social distancing – so they are often seen as particularly dangerous places.

Art Sutley, a hospitality consultant, said he hopes this year’s 50 Best announcement will give the industry a much-needed step forward. He added that shortlisted places often see a significant business boost from locals as well as tourists. “You become a target bar,” says Sutley.
