Thandie Newton sends tearful apology to dark-skinned actresses: I’m sorry I was the cast, my mom looks like you
Thandie Newton is shedding tears over guilt over the light-skinned privilege she experienced as a Hollywood actress.
In a recent promotional interview for her latest film Sundance Kingdom of GodBritish actress Thandie Newton opened up about receiving stereotypes from African-American women, and the guilt she faces for misrepresenting them.

Thandie Newtonwho has starred in hit movies like Tyler Perry’s For girls of color and with Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happiness, indicate her role in the new movie Kingdom of God relevant to everyone who has experienced prejudice, just like her.
In the interview, she said:
“I realized that my internal prejudice was preventing me from feeling like I could play the role. When I get to that exact stereotype, it doesn’t matter more because African-American women than anyone else. I have received prejudice. Anyone who has ever been oppressed and prejudiced has felt this personality. “

The 49-year-old actress continued to reflect on the prejudice she believes stem from Black women, and shed tears as she revealed that she wanted to apologize to them on a daily basis.
“I really want to apologize to actresses who have dark skin every day. To say, ‘I’m sorry I’m the chosen one.’ My mother looks like you. “

After becoming overwhelmed with emotions, Thandie expressed how much pain she felt when women who looked like her mother did not feel represented by her.
“It is painful to have women who look like my mother feel like I don’t represent them. That I’m taking from them. Take their people, take their work, take their truth. ” She speaks.
Thandie went on to say that although she feels guilty about the blackism in Hollywood that is opening the door for her, she believes all actresses who are women of color will continue to thrive. more diverse and inclusive of black women in the industry.
“I think that any woman of color – pale or whatever, has found a way to help other actors get into this business, we matter. Whenever they say that Black women have seen the movie and it’s really, really important to them, I just thank God that my light skin didn’t stop it from happening. I’m glad it didn’t cause any more pain.” She speaks
