Texas dad accidentally killed 11-year-old daughter Daisy Grace Lynn George on a hunting trip, authorities say

An 11-year-old girl in Texas has died after her father accidentally shot and killed her while on a hunting trip over Thanksgiving weekend, authorities said.
Daisy Grace Lynn George died Saturday following a deadly shooting in Hallsville, Texas, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday, releasing the girl’s name after notifying her family.
Emergency medical personnel on Saturday answered calls about an injured 11-year-old boy and took her to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities say 911 callers told dispatchers around 5:15 p.m. that Daisy’s father had accidentally shot her with a high-powered rifle during a hunting trip.
Medics tried to transport the girl by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment, but the plane had to land due to inclement weather conditions. KSLA reported. The girl was unable to cope with her injuries despite “lifesaving efforts” provided by the hospital.
Sixth graders are scheduled to be held Monday at her school, Hallsville Middle School, according to a post on the school’s Facebook page. Students and staff throughout the district are encouraged to wear purple in honor of Daisy’s favorite color.
“Whenever a young person loses their life, it is a tragedy for everyone involved,” Harrison County Sheriff Brandon Fletcher said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends during this difficult time.”
The Texas Parks and Harrison County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation is underway.
