“Tevita Pangai Jr is suspended due to a crusher hit, so he won’t be available until Round 20 or 21 when he will be a Panther and what is he worth to the Panthers?

Brent Read said: “It’s all gone downhill because he’s clearly going to be attending the Bulldogs next year and the Broncos are happy he’s gone.

“The Bulldogs didn’t want him right away because they wanted to save that money and use it in other ways, so suddenly Pangai Jr is on the market for the rest of this year.

“James Fisher-Harris’ wife is pregnant so he’s going to be out of the bubble for a while. Tevita was apparently available and they were able to agree on terms to make it happen.

“The big problem now is that they won’t start with him until August 1, so he will play Roosters on August 2, which is the first game he’s in.

“The fact that the Panthers deal doesn’t go into effect until August 1 means the Broncos will pay him through the end of the month. But I’m not sure they want him around the playgroup.

“They have to find somewhere he can train and stay fit and Penrith will do that.

“It was a great signing for Penrith. On his day, he was a match winner. ”

Paul Kent revealed the Broncos have reached a pretty good deal.

“On the other hand, it really should be seen as a pay-capped savings exercise for the Broncos in next year’s pay cap,” Kent said.

“The Broncos couldn’t make it to the finals this year so what they did was pretty smart.

“By letting him go now and saying that Penrith will pay him $100,000 for the rest of the season, that $100,000 will come down to the Brisbane salary cap next year.

“So that gives the Broncos another $100,000 over the next year limit, which can sometimes be the difference between landing a single player and not landing a player.

“We all know they are in the race for Dane Gagai and they are also looking at some other players.”
