Tennis star Coco Gauff: I tested positive for COVID and won’t be able to compete in the Olympics

US tennis star Coco Gauff is withdrawing from the Tokyo Olympics, after testing positive for coronavirus. She made the announcement on social media over the weekend, writing:

“I am very disappointed to share the news that I have tested positive for COVID and will not be able to attend the Olympic Games in Tokyo. I have always dreamed of representing the United States at the Olympics, and I hope there will be many more opportunities for me to make this a reality in the future. “

“We are saddened to hear that Coco Gauff has tested positive for COVID-19 and will therefore not be able to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.” The United States Tennis Association said in a statement. “We wish her the best as she faces this unfortunate situation and hope to see her again soon on the court. We know Coco will join all of us in cheering on the other members of Team USA who will be coming to Japan and competing in the coming days. “

The Olympics begin Friday in Tokyo and run until August 8.
