THQ Nordic unveils a new game titled Tempest Rising inspired by 90’s and early 2000’s RTS games like Command and Conquer.
earlier today, THQ Nordic broadcast its digital showcase, giving players new insights into the company’s previously announced games. This included gameplay footage from two upcoming medieval RTS games that the company announced earlier. However, THQ Nordic surprised players by announcing a new game inspired by the sci-fi RTS games of the 90’s and early 2000’s. The upcoming game is known as Rising Storm.
In the 1990s and 2000s there was a healthy selection of RTS games to choose from. Contains some of the biggest names in the genre Age of Empires, star ship, Warcraftand Command and conquer. Several of these franchises have had episodes that helped define the RTS genre and remain popular with fans and critics alike. Unfortunately, publishers seemed to have less interest in the genre throughout the 2000s and 2010s, but now it seems to be making a comeback in a big way.
During THQ Nordic’s digital presentation, the company unveiled its new RTS game, Rising Storm. The game’s trailer features a voiceover of an unknown leader praising the player and encouraging them to take down their enemy. A metal song that sounds like something aside from controversy eternal doom The soundtrack plays over the gameplay footage, which features classic base building mechanics and enemies fighting each other on foot, with guns, flamethrowers and in tanks.
During the THQ Nordic Showcase, the publisher gave players a better look at several upcoming games. This included but was not limited to the first official look at the Alone in the dark Reboot, a full trailer for the Gothic Remake and a co-op space simulator known as place for sale. Gameplay footage for the upcoming 5th Crusade based strategy game, The Bravewas introduced as well as a new look at the medieval strategy game Knights of Honor 2: Sovereign. Rising Stormhowever, is the only RTS set in a sci-fi setting.
While Rising Storm is described as a game inspired by previous RTS games, the primary inspiration seems to be that Command and conquer games. Once considered one of the greatest RTS franchises of all time, the series began to fizzle out after EA acquired the intellectual property. The last major part of the series was that Command and conquer Remaster announced and released in 2020. The new THQ Nordic game is set in a war-ravaged world as the player chooses from one of three factions trying to restore order to the globe.
Rising Storm currently has no release date but is expected to launch sometime in 2023.
