In a short eight-second teaser trailer shown at EVO, the world’s biggest fighting game tournament, developer Bandai Namco seemingly confirmed a new entry in the franchise but left everyone wondering if the game is Tekken 8 or maybe a remake or remaster. The very short trailer features fan favorite and mainstay of the series, Kazuya Mishima, in a scene from his story that ends with the very first one Tekken Game before moving on to more modern graphics. The words “Get Ready” appear on screen as Kazuya smiles and his eye turns red, indicating his devil transformation.

With this trailer being so short and no word from Bandai Namco yet, it’s difficult to determine what’s next Tekken project is actually. The teaser focuses entirely on Kazuya, and the footage shown is from the very first game in the franchise, which could point to a remake or some sort of remaster. But when the trailer switches to the modern graphics, it’s new footage. Also worth noting is Kazuya’s red eye, which he didn’t have until the events of Tekken 4which this new entry might imply (whether it’s a direct sequel to tekken 7, a Tekken spin-off or something else entirely) canonically takes place after the events of Tekken 4. Tekken 8 It’s been rumored to be in development since the NVIDIA leak in 2021 revealed the title’s name along with several other games yet to be announced.

EVO has historically been a wonderland of announcements for fighting game fans. With other important announcements from Bandai Namco, such as Dragon Ball Fighter Z With the rollback netcode, EVO seems like the perfect place to announce the next main entry in the Tekken Series. Coupled with the NVIDIA leak detailing many potential games in development including tekken 8, It seems likely that this is a teaser for the next mainline game. Nothing has been confirmed yet, so fans will have to be patient.

tekke 7 is now available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
