Ted Lasso Part 2 premieres in a dark place for the crew at AFC Richmond. Beloved star player Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernandez) accidentally kills the team’s gray hound mascot, sending the normally cheerful man into a spiral of shame. Dani suffers from “illness”, a psychological condition in which his injury is affecting his ability to play at his peak potential. The team decided to bring in a sports psychologist named Sharon to deal with the fallout, which means Ted Lasso Season 2 welcomes a brand new star with the main cast: Sarah Niles.
Sarah Niles looks familiar to you, perhaps due to the actress’s seniority on stage and screen. Most recently, she appeared in Michaela Coel’s I can destroy you and Sharon Horgan’s Disastrous. She also appeared in Beautiful people, Happy people, Lucky people, Crucified people, and even Which doctor. However, her character Sharon is the most alien presence in Ted Lasso’s world. In fact, the beloved character of Jason Sudeikis – who famously taught us all about how we should be “inquisitive, not judgmental” – seems to judge Sharon from the start.
“I imagine he’s being pretty judgmental,” Niles told Decider, “but what is he trying to defend? And it’s a journey he’s on. We’re all dealing with things, so we all have ways of protecting ourselves. “
Niles added: “And she was a newcomer too, and she was watching people. ‘And what does she write in that book?‘ [laughs]”
Indeed, Sharon’s mission is not only to support the critical mental health of AFC Richmond players, but also to observe the political situation of each individual on the team. She would treat training like a hawk and refuse to give Ted any of her thoughts. In fact, observation is a big part of Sharon’s personality and what Niles liked about playing the character. Especially when it comes to her scenes with co-star Jason Sudeikis.
“I really enjoyed watching him. I felt like I had to do very little, and he did a lot in trying to cover things up,” she said.
Sharon could go head-to-head with Ted on screen, but Niles insisted that the cast Ted Lasso kind and welcoming like when they appeared on the popular Apple TV+ show.
“They are still as adorable as they look. They are!” said Niles, before admitting that taking on the role made her nervous about her “first day of school.” you pop up… I thought, “Oh, it’s really tough. Am I okay? Am I okay? ‘ But they were lovely and Jason gave me loads of ideas, really helped. All the teams were there. so. “
A part of Ted Lasso According to Niles, that doesn’t match the hype? Ted’s Famous Cookies. “Oh my god, I’m so glad my characters don’t like sugar because they’ve been terrible! “
“I really think they will be good,” said Niles. “I don’t know how Hannah [Waddingham] been trying to eat those cookies the whole time, but man…”
