Tales of Arise Gets Major Snub at The Game Award 2021

The Game Awards nominations were revealed today, a collection of categories and community votes to determine the best of the best. Of course, it should be noted that some organizations award “Game of the year“And things like that, but the Geoff Keighley event just keeps growing every year. Even now, it is one of the most authoritative organizations for these awards, with the event being associated with major world awards every year.

There are plenty of great games that have come out this year, and it’s not an enviable position to have to declare, from these nominees, what comes out on top. Games like Deathloop, it takes two, and many more are scattered across several categories, but there are a few categories that don’t have a single nomination. Snub, it seems increasingly common and inevitable in organizations like this, and it looks like this year, Tales of Arise was shunned.

Tales of Arise, Game Awards and other nominations

The story of the origin of the intermediate crystal grain position

Deathloop received 8 nominations, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart get 4, Psychonauts 2 received 4, and Profit and Kena each person get 3 pcs. Tales of Arise, on the other hand, get only one for best RPG, which is a great category but just about the most general category Tales of Arise can be nominated for. The why question now seems controversial, but it is the reason for it Tales of Arisethe state of a JPG played a role in its only nomination.

Outside Final Fantasy and now Persona, JRPGs are not popular in the West. It’s a bit self-explanatory in the fact that Tales of Arise (as FF16) have made smart moves to Westernize their entries, but reality remains an uphill battle for solid JPRGs. Whatever the reason behind these many votes, it seems obvious Tales of Arise should have had a much stronger presence at The Game Awards. For example, on Opencritic, it has a top review average of 87 (in a year with very few games more than 90+ new) and has a recommendation rate of 99%.

What Tales of Arise Should Be Nominated at The Game Awards

The ship has set sail, and all fans of the franchise can do is get tired. For the sake of argument, though, it’s worth considering the other categories the game could have, in theory, nominated outside of Game of the Year.

  • Best narrationTales of Arise tell a very mature story, are certainly wrapped in similar JRPG themes, but one that is fully realized by its personality, their role in life, and the strangeness of the social structure. It’s not afraid to tackle difficult topics, and that should have landed it here.
  • The best game direction Tales of Arise mixing maturity, classic Stories and modern RPG elements, Sci-fi themes, fantasy ideas, and hints of Westernization with enough JRPG influence to keep it grounded. Few games combine so many ideas together so well, and it’s a unique direction that deserves to be applauded. To the definition of, Tales of Arise is every aspect of Best Game Direction’s “outstanding creative vision and innovation in game design and direction,” even when compared to this year’s heavyweights like It takes two and Deathloop.

GOTY, Best Narration, Best Role Playing and Best Game Direction will be given Tales of Arise with the presence of Ratchet and Clank, as well as Psychology 2. This feels worth it. Meanwhile, even ignoring GOTY because it is such a vast category, it could have been and should be on the same level as Profit and Kena. If a PS5 or Xbox Series X owner hasn’t played yet Tales of Arise, well, it’s a must-play game for 2021.

Tales of Arise currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
