Sydney McLaughlin wins gold for the US in 400-meter hurdles

TOKYO — American Sydney McLaughlin, who’s from Dunellen, N.J., has damaged her personal world file to win the ladies’s 400-meter hurdles in 51.46 seconds. She edged out Dalilah Muhammad, who gained silver to make it a U.S. 1-2 end.

McLaughlin set the earlier world file of 51.90 seconds in June. Queens native Muhammad, who set the world file twice in 2019 and gained the world championship gold medal that yr, completed in 51.58.

Femke Bol of the Netherlands took bronze in 52.03.
