In this December 7 Retro Ad Replay, we’re traveling back in time three years since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate first launched on Nintendo Switch. It’s December 7, 2018. Developed by Bandai Namco Studios and published by Nintendo, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the much-anticipated Switch exclusive.
GameRevolution awarded Super Smash Bros. Ultimate score 9/10 in our review, which celebrates how it combines “great combat” with “a lot of work to do”. The addition of “Spirits” will make up for the missing titles, by “having such diverse and realistic in-game applications.”
Super Smash Bros Ultimate fixes the problems I had with Super Smash Bros.’s relatively naked content for the Wii U and 3DS. I haven’t been a huge fan of games since Melee, and Ultimate definitely won me back with its combination of great combat and plenty to do. I miss the titles, but the Spirits make up for it by having such diverse and realistic in-game applications.
The only thing that led to the release of Smash Ultimate was the completely inadequate network infrastructure Nintendo provided for the game, making online play an exercise in frustration and sometimes wisdom. auxiliary artificial. Fortunately, the fundamentals of the game are very solid, so hopefully Nintendo will fix these issues in future patches. For now, though, I’d pause if you’re going to spend most of your time playing online. It’s the best single-player Smash game to date and retains the great couch co-op the series is famous for, but only time will tell if the online functionality will catch up to the rest. of the game or not.
