A fan-made model depicting the 3D game Super Mario Bros. might look like an open world game in the style of Breath of the Wild.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild changed everything, not only for Nintendo but for the entire industry. Nintendo’s willingness to reinvent a major franchise has resonated with fans, with a 3D open-world structure helping to provide new depth to the game. Zelda experience. It’s no surprise that fans of Nintendo, and other game studios, are quick to demand similar reinvention for other franchises. The mockup comes from Redditor cestialAnonymous, an artist who said they put together a screenshot from Super Mario Odyssey with open world wallpapers from Unity for their concept. The concept art from cestialAnonymous is very standard. It shows Mario walking down a dirt road in a heavily wooded area. In the bottom left corner is a mini map, showing paths branching left and right for Mario to explore as he progresses. There are also nearly 10 markers on the map that show important places around the world.
It just shows that the popularity of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild built on very basic ideas that are applicable to most other franchises. The idea of a larger world to explore captures the imagination and excitement of gamers. Mockups don’t even have anything to do with Mario game, but that doesn’t really matter.
Odds are, Nintendo won’t accept Super Mario Franchising in the same direction as it The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo fans will get what they want from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, afterall. Fan Super Mario seems content with the direction of the franchise, after all. The popularity of Super Mario Odyssey is undeniable.
At this point, however, it’s hard to argue that a “reboot” of an open-world franchise would be unpopular regardless of its previous genre. If Nintendo quit 3D open world version of Mario, Metroid, Kirby, and even F-ZeroNintendo fans will probably love it all and ask for more.
