Sundance winner ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth’ looks deadly sexy

If anyone knows how to start a bar mitzvah, it’s Jig Conductor. Have you met him yet? His real name is actually Andrew, and he’s played by Cooper Raiff in the Sundance darling movie trailer. Cha Cha is so smooth.

Fresh out of college, Andrew feels like any recent graduate: hopeless, aimless, and unemployed. That last one, however, is in fact incorrect – Andrew has a job, he’s not too proud of it. For a living, the 22-year-old is responsible for motivational dancing (yes, a real thing) at his younger brother’s classmates’ bar and bat games. Remember the DJ at your middle school dance? He has a real name and a real life.

But as anyone who’s ever hosted junior high school dances probably knows, it’s not a sustainable profession. Andrew is pretty good at his job — look at all the pre-sprout webs that are starting to appear! —But he wanted to do something, whatever other. So when he meets beaming Dakota Johnson at one of his parties, his life is completely unprofitable. She has that influence on everyone.

In fact, Andrew becomes the babysitter for Lola (Vanessa Burghardt), the child of Domino (Johnson) and falls in love with her not lightly. However, she has a fiancé! However, Andrew is the best fit to watch Lola, getting her out of her comfort zone and onto the dance floor from their first interaction.

Cha Cha is so smooth following Cooper Raiff’s debut feature, Shithouse, another similar teen film that follows college students, debuted in 2020. His new film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to glowing reviews. , causing Apple TV+ to buy the movie for a summer release. It went on to win the festival’s Audience Award.

If that pattern sounds a bit familiar, that’s because it’s exactly like a road Coda following last year. After its premiere at Sundance, the indie film was picked up by Apple TV+ and released in late summer. A few months later, Coda became the winner of best picture at the Oscars. It’s too early to call Oscar pictures at this point, but just a thought!

Cooper Raiff directs the film as director, screenwriter, and main star, with Dakota Johnson playing opposite the creator. The film’s cast also includes Leslie Mann as Raiff’s mother, Evan Assante as his brother, Vanessa Burghardt, Brad Garrett, Odeya Rush and Raúl Castillo.

Cha Cha is so smooth will land on Apple TV + on June 17.
